The Story

Her entire life, Karen Martin has been a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. There are countless times she has put her own needs on the back burner because someone in her life needed help. She is nothing short of an angel walking amongst us but sometimes even an angel needs help…

In the recent weeks, Karen was diagnosed with Stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma and is heading into an intense 52 weeks (chemo, surgery, more chemo and radiation) with every intention to come out a winner. Many have battled this disease but Karen has a bigger hurdle. She has to balance cancer treatments while managing Lupus, an auto immune disorder that predisposes her to health challenges.

Karen has a long road ahead of her. Aside from medical expenses, living expenses will be difficult due to the intense schedule for treatment and not being able to continue to work. Financial stress is one worry we can take off Karen’s shoulders so she can focus on her treatment and recovery. Her family is doing all they can but they need help and so we are calling all angels…

Please keep Karen in your thoughts and prayers. She needs all of her angels now more than ever.

Karen is onto the next round of chemotherapy treatment - this will be 12 weeks long... bringing us to March when she will have surgery. Here is her recent update "GOD has given me an early Christmas present! AMAZED, BLESSED and so GRATEFUL! Dana Farber/Karen-1 Cancer -0. The tumor I could feel is gone! The other (s) so much smaller. Cancer may change the way you look. Cancer may change the way you feel. But with love and support it can not touch your spirit! To each an everyone thank you for the love, support, meals, laughter, and tears. I am so much stronger because of you! Round 2 begins on Monday. I am ready! Love Kay"

Moms update for week 1:
This last week has truly been a time of reflection. Round 1 of chemotherapy over. 51 more treatments to go. The support and love I have received has left me at times overwhelmed but mostly it has given me a powerful feeling of strength and hope. I am truly blessed and grateful to have so many in my corner. I thank each and everyone of you. My family has been amazing to say the least. I am also so blessed to have Dana Farber so close (blazinga Stacey) and the team of professionals taken me under their wings. Grateful for my two joys Cameron and Carter. They are the best medicine of all! Much love, Kay
