The Story

Off-duty Alderson Police Officer Mccaden "Mac" Brackenrich was injured in a shooting in Summers County on Friday, October 27.  The incident appears to be unrelated to his police work and he was off duty.  He is currently in the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC).  We hope to raise $50,000 to help with his medical expenses.  Please donate what you can.
As you can see in the photo, earlier on Friday he was helping the Alderson Police Department hand out pencils and flashlights to Alderson Elementary school students at their Halloween event.  He has a fiancee and a one year old daughter.  Your help will be appreciated.  Mac was very seriously injured.

Devon Grey Rodgers is with Mac Brackenrich.

Thursday, November 16

Mac has had a very good day. His surgery earlier went great and he’s actually been able to rest today. It makes my heart smile to know that he’s more comfortable. All of the tubes in his mouth are officially gone and all he has left is the ventilator hooked to his trach.
Seeing his entire face for the first time in almost three weeks made me want to explode with excitement. I can’t wait to kiss his lips once he’s awake a little more! The nurse he had today even shaved him.The plan is to gradually start bringing Mac off of sedation over the next couple days. His pulmonologist mentioned earlier that he is very happy with the way Mac looks clinically and how things are going. That is a HUGE accomplishment and something that we’ve been dying to hear.Keep praying for us. We’ve taken little steps up until now, but these next days are going to be filled with huge leaps to get to where we need to be next. What you all are seeing is nothing short of God working on Mac and his story. We’re slowly writing the end to this chapter and getting ready to start another, so stay tuned. As always, we appreciate your support, love, and prayers. We COULDN’T do it without you. We love each of you 🖤

A week ago things were really scary.. we thought we were going to be sending Mac out of here and looking at an option for him that was nothing but a life sustaining measure until we saw if his lungs were going to improve.
Today he is in completely different health! He’s still very sick and still fighting a VERY hard battle, but compared to where we were a week ago it’s a night and day difference!
Fingers crossed he will be put back on a “normal” bed and off the bed that puts him on his belly. He’s been on his back for over 48 hours and that’s a big deal from where we were just a couple days ago. Chest xrays are starting to look better. Nurses say his lungs are starting to sound better. His numbers are slowly improving. He is slowly being weaned from the ventilator. This means things ARE progressing!
We’re unsure how long he’ll be on a ventilator and how long he’ll be sedated at this point. But with that being said, I’m hoping this is a very big week for him! I’m certainly ready to see his smile again.
Slow and steady wins the race and we’ll take everything day by day.
Continue to pray for his sweet soul! God is healing him in his time.

From Devon on Tuesday, November 7:  When things get dark he never lets it stay that way for too long.
Mac had a good night, so let’s turn that into a good day! Keep sending the prayers. We’re not out of the woods but inch a little closer to the sunlight with passing time.
God’s just brewing on what happens next and I️ can’t wait to see what he has in store 🖤
