The Story

I am a 41 year old homeschooling Orthodox mother of two young children facing aggressive stage 2a invasive ductal breast cancer. (Since 3/27 upgraded to stage 2b for metastatic spread to lymph nodes)

Due to a department closing, my husband lost his job of 11 years and we were unemployed for half of 2016. We received exactly one job offer which meant we had to use our savings to move across country for. We didn't think it was that risky, thought we would re-establish our savings again but life took a decidedly different turn.

This is entirely out of the blue, there is no history of breast cancer in my family and no symptoms. I went in for my first mamogram for a baseline reading and was given the bad news. Dr. Dumalo started my chemo 3/30 and I will receive a double mastectomy with possible radiation in August. My husband is too new at his position to qualify for vacation or even unpaid FMLA so I will rely on nurses for my care during treatment. Any amount will help us with the mountain of medical bills we face as insurance deductibles reset to 0 on 7/1 not 1/1 as we thought, which is smack dab in the middle of treatment.

I also run Pascha Press and (let's hope my kids don't need to use it) wrote a children's book about the Orthodox funeral service. Buying a copy of this book, "When My Baba Died", is another way you can help us keep our roof over our head and food on the table. Thank you and God Bless you!

Just had something really weird w chemo yesterday (TCHP) Got to end of herceptin and ready for the T, on saline, had a sensation in vein in my neck, it traveled up and down at the same time from center, went up to my eye and forehead and started a headache, down to my heart and felt warm and like a gas bubble trapped there, radiated straight through to between my shoulderblades.
After switching to the T, had a bad back spasm and face got flushed and blood pressure rose quickly within a few minutes of starting, got the shakes real bad...swarm of nurses come in, put me on 02 and gave me benadryl and hydrocortozone, checked my vitals which I don't know what they were but they were upset by my numbers and discussing if the doc should be called and someone got the PA. It resolved within half an hour or so. We are trying the T again but slower...was able to get through it.
Found out after getting home and hitting Dr. Google there is a rare allergic reaction to Taxotere, like 1-3% rare. I may have to get on Abraxane which is Taxotere without the carrier that makes people react but that takes permission from the ins. co. bc it is so expensive. Well it's that or risk heart failure and ICU with another challenge.
Still red and hot in the face. Found out the back spasm was my adrenal glands going into overdrive w adrenaline bc of the allergic reaction, that's why I shook so bad. If the nurse wasn't right there to turn it off I was going to go into anaphylaxic shock!
