The Story

My sister, Marisa Rahdar (31), was diagnosed with breast cancer on March 16th of 2017.  Through the testing phase she has also been diagnosed with cancer located in her lymph nodes and tailbone.  This upcoming week she will begin radiation and meet with her team of doctors at Troy Beaumont to finalize a plan of action for her treatment.  In the meantime, we have estimated her medical expenses not covered by her insurance, as well as her living expenses during the time of her treatment.  We will update this site during her treatment so you can all get a small sample of that famous Marisa "charm".  For those concerned, her eyebrows remain unsullied.  Thank you all for the love and support.

Message from Marisa during her 2nd of 12 chemo sessions:
FAQS:
How long/often do you have to do chemo for?
- Once a week for 12 weeks.
How are you feeling?
- Like shit for the most part.
Are you working?
- Yes but use the term "work" very loosely. Once a week every other week on Thursdays.
Are you worried about losing your hair?
- No. It's just hair but I will be fucking pissed if my eyebrows fall out.
How are treatments going?
- So much fun! They suck but doing what they're supposed to do.
Why are you so sweaty?
- I was either watching Cops or having a hot flash. Probably the latter.

Thanks again for all the well wishes and kind deeds. You people are fantastic.

Good news: Huge thank you to Ian, Nick, all of the servers, volunteers and the people that came out to Cellermen's to support Marisa in her fight. The night was a lot of fun and it was great to see Marisa have a good time with friends and family.

Bad news: Marisa's doctors have decided that chemo is now her best route moving forward and they are working diligently to move her treatment in that direction as quickly as possible. Below is a quote from her. Again, we cannot thank all of you enough for your time, well wishes, energy, and donations. She is going to kick this thing's ass.

"To make a long story short I recently found out I'm going to have to do chemo.

Not super stoked about it but as adults we have to do shit we don't want to do all the time.

On the plus side of this after my chemotherapy I will be having the BIGGEST glass of bourbon after I finish!"

Ian, and his dashing team of mead makers, will be throwing Marisa a benefit at their home location, Cellarmen's, in Hazel Park. The event is on Monday, June 12th, from 7pm-12am. Marisa still can't drink and is quite surly about it so make sure you tell her how delicious the mead is!

Again, thank you so much to all of you. Your generosity  and kindness has been incredibly uplifting for her and for us.
