The Story

Three days after his one month birthday- February 8th, 2017, Jerome Blue Manrique went in for an emergent surgery to biopsy a mass growing behind his eye and was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of childhood cancer. His parents Mario and Jennifer Manrique, along with his big brother DJ and family have spent the last few days at Seattle Childrens at his cribside. On Friday, February 9th, he ...again went to surgery to have a Hickman catheter (semi-permanent IV) placed in his right chest, which is how he will receive his chemotherapy. On February 11th, he received his first round of chemotherapy and will continue treatment at Childrens Hospital on an outpatient basis for the next 6 months, but since they live so far away (greater than 60 miles from hospital), the family will need to stay in Seattle at the Ronald McDonald House. Any funds raised will be used to help the family while they are out of work and living in Seattle for the next few months.

If you've ever been fortunate to have met Weaz and Jenn, you know first hand how open and loving and good hearted this couple is.  They are the most friendly, giving people and have touched so many people with their love. We are all better by knowing them.  They are part of an amazing family that is supportive and gives all they can to whoever is in need. Please return the favor in this incredible hard time as they try to navigate these rough waters and find a new "normal".   Please share this page with as many people as you can and lets help support this great family.

Today, Jerome kicked ass and did great through his surgery. To say he is a fighter is putting it mildly.

At 3pm he was taken to surgery and it was still unclear what they would find and how extensive the tumor had grown into the surrounding tissue and bone. At around 7pm, the surgeon came out and spoke with Jenn and Weaz and let them know the eye and the tumor had been successfully removed and he was able to salvage the upper and lower eyelids. He was extremely happy with... the outcomes of surgery today and spoke to how strong of a fighter he is. There still is a long road ahead, but put one down for #teamjerome! His eye is packed and sewn shut at this point and it won't be til next week to know the reports from the pathologist. The next step in the process is recovery from surgery and to determine if chemotherapy or radiation is the next course of action to get any remaining tumor cells.

Thank you everyone for your prayers, positive thoughts, comments, love and support. It was felt today and helped carry us through. We love and appreciate you all! Today, we definitely made a great start to #kickcancersass! #teamjerome #manriquestrong

Yesterday, Jerome was admitted to Seattle Children's for another blood transfusion and for pain management. Today, after meeting with the tumor board, he will have surgery tomorrow afternoon for removal of his eye and the rapidly growing tumor, hoping to get it all and checking to make sure it has not spread to the surrounding bone (hopefully still kept in his eye socket). Because of the size of the tumor and its growth, he has a corneal abrasion, which has c...aused a lot of pain for him and warranted scheduled doses of pain medication. He also hasn't been eating well and was planned to have a feeding tube placed today. Jenn, Weaz and DJ will be spending the next few days down in Seattle while he recovers from surgery and gets his pain under control. Please continue to pray for Jerome Baby Blue and his family. #teamjerome #manriquestrong

Good evening everyone! Here's a little update on Jerome:
On Wednesday Jerome was discharged from Seattle Children's and him and momma are staying with Auntie Mu in Seattle while they are on a waitlist for the Ronald McDonald house, which is long and they may not get a room for the first round of chemotherapy. Friday is the first day of outpatient chemo, which he receives at Childrens and then gets to head back to his temp home in Seattle.  Every third treatment is more intensive and he has to stay 1-2 nights at the hospital.  Weaz and DJ will spend most of the week at home in Sedro Woolley and head down Friday to spend the weekend with lil bro and mom.  They will continue this schedule for the next three months and then reevaluate.

Thank you for all the kind words, prayers, donations, and positive thoughts. We appreciate so much the kindness of the community and family and friends and everyone who is supporting the Manriques during this time.  #teamjerome #manriquestrong
