The Story

On October 30, 2016, cancer took Caitlin Fennessey Burnett, a young mother and a loving wife, from our lives far too soon.  Caitlin's greatest and lasting legacy on this earth are her three beautiful daughters, Margaret (Age 7), Eileen (Age 5), and Eleanor (Age 2).  Aside from mother and wife, Caitlin was so much to so many people:  a lifelong neighbor in Little Compton, a devoted middle school teacher, a classmate at Villanova, a lifeguard and friend at Warren Point Beach Club, the youngest sister to 6 siblings and cherished aunt to 12 nieces and nephews.

As she bravely faced cancer, her two primary concerns were that her daughters have ways to remember her and that they have every opportunity to follow their interests and passions--whatever they may be.  As the youngest of seven children herself, Caitlin always wanted her daughters to be able to do things she couldn't do herself.  She felt it was a way to help her memory live on and for Margaret, Eileen and Nora to achieve their dreams.

All money raised will be placed in a The MEE Fund (named for Margaret, Eileen and Eleanor), to be administered by her loving husband Ed Burnett for the benefit of the girls.  The fund will allow her daughters to participate in educational and extra-curricular activities and provide for whatever needs/desires arise as they grow up.

Caitlin leaves behind a hole in our hearts that will never be mended, memories that will last forever, and an example of strength that inspired us all.

Thank you for your generosity and help in establishing this Fund.

*Checks made to The MEE Fund can also be sent directly to:  Santander Bank, PO Box 912, Little Compton, RI 02837.

**Please know that the site requires a "goal amount" to be given.  We have set no expectation on a target, but just hope that to start something to honor Caitlin's legacy.  Thanks once again.

The services the last two days were beautiful and exhausting.  I feel comfortable speaking for both the Burnett and Fennessey families that we were floored by the outpouring of love and support from everyone.  Friends, family, coworkers. . . it was amazing to see you all there.  Personally, what impacted me the most, was seeing those people where time and life has gradually created distance between us. . . it brought me back to some great memories.  I wish I had more time with all of you this weekend and I hope that you will make a commitment with me to find time to spend time together in the coming months.

A special thanks to those I did get a chance to spend extended time with. . . we had some good laughs. . . which on a hard day was much needed.

Thank you all.

I am floored by the support you all have shown.  It's wonderful to see names of friends from long ago and to read messages from people that I have never even met.  The hardest thing is that every time I see a donation I want to run and tell Caitlin.  We are just over a day old, so I have increased our goal.  As I mentioned, I came into this with no expectations, but I would have never in my wildest dreams thought we would be where we are right now.  I plan to reach out to you all for personal thanks soon, but until then just know how appreciative I am.  Thanks.
