2015 was a tragic year for The Gray Family. Nevertheless, Marcie's faith remained unshaken and her smile made that evident to those whose path she crossed.
After 22 years of marriage, Marcie found herself struggling to make ends meet as a single mother to a 16 and 18 year old daughter who were hurting. It wasn't their choice, and it's most painful for the kids when a family falls apart. Six months later, Marcie was diagnosed with breast cancer. These two young girls had their world ripped apart and then were thrown into caring for their mother who was fighting for her life.
Three surgeries later, a double mastectomy (with complications) and an infection that was antibiotic resistant, Marcie found herself weak, weary and worn. Her girls were emotionally exhausted and thrown into supporting their mother financially, physically and emotionally when they, themselves were in dire need of support.
Friends and family stepped up and pitched in where they could. Just when it seemed there was light at the end of the tunnel, the medical bills started flooding in. One of the surgeries failed. The infection caused some issues that will require not one, but two more surgeries, now under a different insurance plan, and there is already significant medical debt ($75,000 - being reviewed, but some are in collections and are now non-negotiable.)
The girls are full-time college students. Marcie is in ministry and does website work, photography and public relations work, in addition to singing and speaking at conferences, but in order to continue the healing process and recover from the last two surgeries, her stress level has to be kept in check. The financial burden makes that very difficult.
Marcie has been blessed to be generous and help financially and practically anytime she was able to meet a need for a friend, loved one or even a stranger in need. She looks so forward to being in a position to "pay it forward" again - what a joy to help someone who needs a hand, especially when they can never repay you. If you are one of those people in a position to help, many will be blessed by it. Every dollar counts. Any money raised over what is needed for Marcie's medical bills will be donated to someone else in need.
May God bless you richly for your generosity,
