The Story

My 8 month old niece Willa has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. She just had her first surgery to remove part of the tumor that was pushing on her spinal cord, and she will need to begin chemo to treat the remaining tumor. While she has been receiving wonderful care at Randall Children’s Hospital, it is two hours from home and three siblings, and her parents, Marce and Jason, are planning for the coming week and months of travel between Eugene and Portland to help Willa get well. We are hoping we can get them some help with some of the unplanned expense of travel, food, and lodging. If you have anything to spare, including and especially your prayers and wel-wishes, they would be greatly appreciated to help relieve some of the stress during this difficult time.

Here is an update on my niece Willa.

We have received all of her pathology and she has stage 4, intermediate risk neuroblastoma. The treatment will start with 8 rounds of chemo. She started her first round yesterday. The recovery rate for her diagnosis is 90%, which is great news!

This next year will be a lot for our family. My sister and brother in law need all the help they can get considering they have 3 other kids all under 3 years old and they will have to make the trip from Eugene to Portland at least 24 times in the next 6 month to receive treatment for baby Willa. Please consider donating if you are able and please continue good thoughts and prayer for her! Thank you all for your support it’s means the world to us!💜

Here is an update for my sister Marce:

We’re still waiting on pathology to confirm staging and risk factor. Willa will be discharged this weekend at some point and her and I will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house right across from the hospital. On 10/17 Willa has Physical therapy in the morning then a hearing test that requires sedation in the afternoon. 10/18 Willa will have an MIBG scan with sedation that will look for any other cancer in her body that the MRI didn’t pick up on. 10/20 she will have a bone scan and her bone marrow will be tested with sedation to see if there is any cancer in there. 10/23 will be a day of training for our family to learn everything we need to know to care for her. 10/24 she will have surgery in put her port in where she will receive chemo through. She should also start her first round of chemo as an inpatient that day. Again all of this testing will determine the frequency of chemo and the type. We are anxious to get pathology back and are hoping it comes back as moderate risk, which is what the oncologist is thinking it will be.

Willa is such a trooper. She is still smiling, talking and laughing through all of this. Everyone loves her here because she is the most easy going baby.

Thank you for everyone’s support and prayers... we really do appreciate it.
