Thank You! :)
For those who are family, friends, and colleagues thank you for your consistent love and support throughout my academic pursuits. Whether you have offered kind words, care packages, monetary gifts or resources I appreciate you greatly.
For those who I do not know, I thank you in advance for reading my story and for your contributions!
I need your help.
My name is Maija Hall and I am a rising junior at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst from Brooklyn, NY. I study Sociology and African-American studies with a concentration in social policy, and plan to pursue my doctorate degree in Public Policy after graduation.
This upcoming academic year I will serve as the President of the UMass Black Student Union and as the Director of Organizing and Training at the Center for Education Policy and Advocacy. I look forward to merging my commitment to striving for Black liberation with my strong policy interest, and I have started work in these fields as a Race Policy intern this summer at the Center for American Progress.
My two years at UMass have been invaluable to both my growth as a scholar and as a budding organizer with the Black Student Union and Organization for Black Leftist Unity.
Unfortunately, my plans and dreams to continue my education will be deferred if I do not raise enough money for this year.
Troubles with Funds
I am on track to be withdrawn from the University as I still owe $1,600 to UMass for my tuition last semester, and therefore cannot register or enroll in my classes. This amount is due immediately and is much more than I can afford by myself.
If I do not pay this now, I will be withdrawn and be required to pay a reinstatement fee for the fall.
While I have received more scholarships and loans for this upcoming year, I am still left with a $4,450 gap which I will owe in the end of August when my bill is due for the fall.
Overall, I need $6100 to secure my status as an enrolled UMass student and to continue my studies next year.
Can you offer support?
My goals of finishing my undergraduate and graduate careers have been a continuous driving force in my life, however I am working with limited funds to make this happen. I have exhausted all funding options at UMass, and I am taking federal loans at their highest capacity which is why I am turning to you.
Anything you can contribute will be helpful! I am greatly appreciative of any contributions regardless of size.
Whether you have the capacity to contribute or not, I ask that you please share this with your social circles!
Thank you so much for your love and contributions!
