The Story

Hi, my name is Angel Do. I live in Connecticut, but my family lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where there has been recent severe flooding. On August 13th, I received a call from my mom to let me know that the water was coming in fast ,that she, my dad and brother were awaiting rescue. They were almost waist deep in flood water. A lot of the roads were blocked due to high water or too dangerous to travel on so no emergency personnel could get to them. Luckily, my youngest sibling, Tam was with her boyfriend and his friends who had a boat. It took several hours and a lot of effort to get them, but thankfully, they were put on a boat and got to safety. The water receded two days later, and they returned to what was left of their home. There is severe damage to their house, and they lost most of their possessions as well as their vehicles. Like many, they do not have flood insurance (they are in a no flood zone), and FEMA will cover only a fraction of the costs for repairs. As my family in is piecing back their lives, Mark, my sister Kim and I are doing what we can from afar, but we want to do more. Any additional assistance is much appreciated.  Friends, it is not easy to ask, and I wouldn’t if I didn’t think they needed it, if you could and have the means to, please consider donating or or making a purchase for a $20 Tshirt, $25 shipped (pictured above) that my more than wonderful fiancé Mark Rolland is making for this cause. 100% of the proceeds will go toward their relief. Again, all donations are welcome but if you are purchasing a tshirt through here, you will also need to email my sister Kim at [email protected] and provide your contact info (name and address) as well as specify gender for tshirt, qty and size so that we can get you your shirt.  Please consider sharing this page with anyone that would like to help.

We've kept this fundraiser a secret as a way to surprise my parents, so when we finally told them, they were obviously overwhelmed with emotion, and for the first time in her life, my mom was at a loss for words lol. After the shock, when she was able to form sentences again, she told me to thank each and every one of you on her and my father’s behalf. They want you all to know that they are immensely grateful for the generosity and kindness you’ve shown us. So as we come to the end of our campaign, on behalf of my family, I want to thank you all for your profound support towards the aid of their recovery. It has been incredible to see so many of our friends, coworkers, family, and neighbors step up and help us during this time. You all exemplify what my parents taught me, what love is about, having compassion and putting others above yourself. Thank you so much for that. They’ve got a long road ahead, but as my mom said in my conversation with her this morning, “We don’t have to worry about things getting better, they are already better all thanks to the good people in our lives” :) From the bottom our hearts, thank you for all the love and support, it means the world to us.

Words cannot express how thankful we are to have such an amazing support system. Between your contribution on this crowdfunding site, tshirt purchases, gift cards, and cash donations, we've raised nearly $5,800! To our friends, coworkers, and neighbors, many thanks and continuous gratitude for the generosity and love you've shown. I cannot overstate how much this means to us.

We found out that FEMA hasn't even filed for them yet. Other families are receiving assistance already and we have heard nothing. To say the very least, these donations have been extremely helpful moving towards rebuilding their home. Until we hear back the estimate on damages this is what we have to concentrate on.
Everyday we are truly so humbled by the generosity of our friends, coworkers and neighbors. Thanks to all who have stopped and bought a tee shirt, and/or donated. With love, Mark & Angel
