Help us help Maggie beat Parvo Virus!!!
Maggie is an adorable 3.5 month old mixed breed pup. She is a new addition to PYP, arriving to us on Thursday evening to start her new life. Maggie’s Foster Family was instantly smitten with Maggie’s sweet, gentle nature, her playfulness, and her constant happily wagging tail. Maggie has multiple cowlicks in her beautiful markings and Maggie’s Foster Family calls them Angel Kisses-which is what Maggie needs now.
That next morning, Maggie's Foster Mom noted that Maggie had some diarrhea and that she still did not want to eat. Other than that she was a happy, active, playful , and very sweet puppy.
Pick Your Paw schedules vet appointments for our new fosters and we decided to test Maggie for Parvo Virus to be on the safe side and we were completely crushed when she tested positive.
Parvo is a terrible virus. The virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in a dogs body, most severely affecting the intestinal tract causing severe vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Parvo also attacks the white blood cells. There isn't a cure for Parvo Virus. The best we can do is give her the best supportive care to control the symptoms and support her immune system as she struggles to beat this virus.
So far Maggie is doing as well as can be expected. She has not started vomiting yet but her diarrhea has worsened overnight . She is still not eating and will need a feeding tube placed today. We caught this very early and our hope is that she will continue to improve and not become as sick as some pups do. Only time will tell if she will start the downward slide we see in so many of these affected puppies. We need to aggressively support her if we are going to get her through this.
Maggie is a fighter. She wants the chance to have that beautiful new life she caught a glimpse of in her Foster Moms loving home. She wants many more days of running, playing, snuggling, and chasing her ball. She deserves that chance.
PYP will continue to fight for Maggie but we need help. We believe Maggie will be beat this but it's extremely costly to treat. Maggie will likely need at least 4-5 days in hospital on supportive care. Our estimate is between $5000-6000. We will adjust the amount as she progresses or as things change.
PLEASE consider making a donation towards her care. No amount is too small (or large!:)
Thank you for your generosity and support!
