The Story

Maggie Boomgaarden's Cancer Journey:

Since Maggie was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, people have graciously offered to financially assist us with the costs needed for cancer treatment, fertility treatments before Maggie starts chemo, and a wig Maggie can wear at our upcoming wedding in August.

Maggie's diagnosis is either stage 2B or stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Stage 2 is due to the location and where it is in her body (that it is not widespread), and B is due to her ongoing symptoms of extreme night sweats for the past year. The tumor is in her upper left chest on top of her heart, is 8x12x13 cm, and is causing fluid to fill in her left lung along with swelling of her left arm. The potential stage 4 is due to the fluid that keeps refilling in her lung and the cause of this is yet to be determined. Please continue to pray for this!

Maggie will have to do chemo bi-weekly for at least 4 months followed by a month or so of radiation. Primarily, she will have immediate and full hair loss, and there is also a high risk of full loss of fertility. Our wedding is 4 months away and Maggie does not "want to be a bald bride"👰🏼, so in addition to medical costs, we would like to raise money to buy Maggie a nice wig. Second, since we also have it in our hearts to have children and be parents together someday, we have a very short window of time before she starts her cancer treatment to do fertility treatments, which are very costly. The fertility treatments will harvest and store her eggs.

We are not exactly sure what we are up against on time and money required for this whole process. We just know that 10 years from now, we hope to look back on beautiful wedding pictures, and wont regret a penny of money we spent to ensure our ability to have children.

Please pray for us to find fertility treatment options that fit our cancer treatment schedule. Please play that God would provide the budget needs for these services, and for Maggie to feel beautiful on our wedding day. Please pray for continued healing of Maggie's body and comfort and strength for us both!

Maggie's doctor said that Hodgkin's Lymphoma is very treatable, and potentially curable, so we are very hopeful she is going to beat this cancer and live a long life! I am going to MARRY this beautiful woman I love so much! We celebrate first and foremost her life and health!

Thank you for being with us on this journey. We could not do this all without you or our wonderful loving God. We are so beyond thankful. Maggie is looking forward to starting treatment soon and finding a place to get fertility treatments started. Thanks for your continued prayers, love and support ❤️

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to everyone who has donated to us, shared our link, and shared our story. We are so thankful for you and we could not be doing the things we are doing now without your help and support.

Here is what your kindness and generosity has allowed us to do thus far:

Maggie was able to buy a nice wig she feels beautiful in, that she will get to wear on our wedding day J

Since Maggie received free primary care at her school and we were getting married in 9 months, Maggie did not have private insurance when this all happened. We applied 5 weeks ago and are still waiting for her Medicaid coverage. Because of your generosity, in the meantime we have not had to delay her necessary medical care due to financial reasons.

Maggie was able to find a great fertility clinic to do treatments in. We have completed one cycle and because the results were not great, we are now on day 3 of a second cycle.

We did not have to dramatically change our wedding plans or put money that is for school or our wedding towards current medical bills.

For medical and fertility costs, we have already needed to spend upwards of $15,000. We will continue to use this fund for her second round of fertility treatments, which are quite expensive. To store the eggs and do the process of implantation is also extremely expensive.

Having finally met your soul mate and being so excited about having kids together in the future, please know how hard this time has been for us. This is something we both have always dreamed of, and we hope you know how thankful we are for your help in allowing us to live out this dream of a family in the future.

We will continue to also use this fund for other necessary medical costs until her insurance kicks in. Thank you so much for helping keep Maggie healthy. We could not do this without you. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear friends, family, and other anonymous donors:

Your support has touched us beyond what words can express. We are so overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity you have shown us, and we are more thankful than we can say. Please know that YOUR donation has truly impacted our hearts and our lives. YOU helped make a very difficult time that much easier, and we are forever grateful that you came alongside us and helped us share this burden.

Your messages and donations have truly touched our hearts, and we are celebrating the fact that we reached our goal so quickly!

Some have asked if there is anything more they can do. First, and foremost, please continue to pray and support us on this journey! Second, we are anxious to start the fertility  treatments, and at this point are unsure exactly how much the costs of this and Maggie's cancer treatments will be. If you feel inclined to give again or encourage someone you know to give, please continue to pass along the link and share our story.

Thank you from the bottom of hearts.  We could not do this without you!

Much love,
