The Story

The ʻōhiʻa lehua is the dominant tree in the Native Hawaiian rainforest. Legends and chants from the Native Hawaiian people explain a scientific necessity to our Hawaiian eco-system.

The plant, which is scientifically known as the Metrosideros Polymorpha is currently under attack from Rapid Ohia Death (ROD). The fungal virus is wiping out acres of forest at an alarming speed.

The Lyons Estate in Mountain View, Hawaii needs your support to preserve 20 acres of pristine ʻōhiʻa lehua trees while propagating and collecting seeds to bank. Funds will go towards compliance of the management plan for the Department of Land and Natural Resources Forestry Program, continuing seedling education, and banking up to two million seeds with the #OHIALOVE project.

Your support and donations are needed quickly.

WATER:

The ʻŌhiʻa tree holds balance in the eco-system within the Hawaiian islands. This tree provides food and shelter for our native birds, such as ‘Apapane and ‘I’iwi. Its trunk supplies water, nutrients and protection for native seedlings. The lehua, or flower, attracts mists and rainwater and then captures it, which provides drinking water for the local communities and agricultural sector.
