Luke and His Family Need an Adaptive Van!
If you have been invited to join this initiative, then you have undoubtedly been touched by Luke, his infectious smile and his kind, warm and wonderful family - or have been invited by someone who knows how much the Seston-Zimmerli family deserves the life changing gift of an adaptive van. This is a one time expense that would change their lives longterm, in the most wonderful way.
Two years ago, many of you had the great joy of witnessing firsthand when Luke received his motorized wheelchair and at the age of 5 was able to go where he wanted on his own. The ability to play tag with his friends, race around with his brothers, and play fetch with his dog had given him the independence he deserves. Like most first graders, Luke is an active boy, riding his adaptive bike, playing piano, drawing, writing stories. In order for the family to drive anywhere, Luke can currently bring himself out to the minivan in his chair, but that’s as far as he can go on his own. He requires assistance transferring into his car seat which entails having someone physically carry him. Then someone needs to move and store the 300lb chair in the trunk with the aid of a 40-pound portable, folding ramp.
While the Seston-Zimmerli family is never one to complain and would likely not admit it, it is obvious to all that the physical toll due to the continuous transfer of both Luke and his equipment is daunting as Luke continues to grow. He can now get to the family van on his own, but an adaptive van would allow him to actually get into and out of the van independently, an important act for not only Luke, but the whole family.
Luke requires a van to get almost anywhere from activities, the store, play dates, therapies to his many doctor appointments. Unbelievably an adapted van is not covered by insurance. While some grants are available, they tend to take a very long time and pay very small amounts. The extended Seston-Zimmerli family has banded together to donate a sizable portion of the expense, but a $26,000 IS STILL NEEDED TO CONVERT THE VAN. This a one time expense. This van could take Luke well into his high school years! Your contribution can make this necessity a possibility.
