Luis Mora is a third year transfer student at UC Berkeley studying Political Science. He was detained in San Diego on New Year's Eve by Customs and Border Protections (CBP) after making a wrong turn and ending at an immigration checkpoint and is now under ICE custody.
With an immigration attorney provided by the Undocumented Student Program at Berkeley and the student organization RISE at Berkeley by his side, community is determined to #FreeLuis and get him back to his community!
In order to do so, we need our the larger community's support in ensuring we have the funds for a bond once it is set. Please consider sharing/donating and helping us bring Luis back to our Berkeley community!
When we win the case and the bond fund is returned, the money will be donated back to Eastbay Community Law Center and Undocumented Student Program to support future legal needs of undocumented students.
Additionally, folks can transfer funds to his inmate account to ensure he can make calls and have access to other resources while in detention. For those interested in doing so, using Western Union transfer services, you'll need the following:
First Name: Luis
Last Name: Mora
Facility: Corrections Corp of America
Inmate #: 5400517
Biller or Facility Name: CORRECTIONS CORP OF AMERICA
Code City/State: XOTAYM IA
His detention could have been prevented if Democrats and Republicans in Congress would have acted on immigrant rights organizations demanding a #cleanDREAMactbefore the year was through. Now Luis faces possible separation from his community, his studies, and the life he's made in the United States. We urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a clean DREAM Act now! There's not time to wait.
