The Story

Thank you for visiting our page to raise money for our dear mother, Luann Kennington. Mom has been battling a very rare soft tissue cancer called Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) for the past 5 years. Soft tissue cancers account for less than 1% of all cancers, and LMS accounts for only 5% - 10% of those. You can read more about this specific type of cancer by clicking here

Before we get into all the heavy stuff, we would like to tell you a little about our mom. Mom met the love of her life, Ken, when she was just 3 years old. Our parents have just celebrated 39 glorious years of marriage, and are the proud parents of 5 wonderful children and 13 adorable grandchildren. There is nothing more important to our parents than family, and we strive to spend as much time together as possible.  Our father worked for many years in the insurance/financial industry and was blessed to be able to provide for our family through his work. In 2009, through a series of disastrous events, dad lost his job which led to the loss of our family home. This was a very difficult time for our family but mom would always say, "It's just a house. If we lose our love for each other, that would be the real tragedy."   Our lifestyle has changed drastically in the past 8 years. Our father is one of the hardest working, honest, kind people, but everything has been working against him. To be frank, mom and dad shouldn't financially be making it every month. The numbers just don't add up. But they pay their tithing and are honest in their dealings, and we know the Lord is blessing them for their efforts.   After the loss of dads job and their home, mom's medical issues began. Mom began bleeding heavily, and had an emergency hysterectomy. A week later we got the news every family dreads: they found cancer. After consulting with numerous doctors, each other, and the Lord, we determined that the wisest course of action was to start chemo as soon as possible.

For the past 5+ years Mom has been doing various forms of chemotherapy and radiation to beat the cancer. This includes 2 rounds of IV chemo, 22 months of oral chemo, and dozens of rounds of radiation. Mom has fought, and fought, and fought with all she has. What began as a fibroid tumor spread to one lung and then another, and yet she continued to have a very positive attitude, serve in the church, raise her children, and enjoy her grandchildren as much as possible. Dad has been by her side every day and works very hard to support her. Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2016, and has had health challenges himself, but continues to go to work and provide all he can for our Mother.

Mom had been battling shoulder pain for about 3 weeks and on July 25, 2017, her oncologist advised her to go to the ER, as they were worried it could be a blood clot. It was that night they discovered that her cancer had spread to her liver, spleen, shoulder, arm, and abdomen. This has been a devastating blow for our family as we are now faced with the challenge of saying goodbye to our sweet mom.   Mom and Dad have been blessed to be covered by medical insurance for the past 3 years. They have worked hard to find life insurance policies that would cover mom but in the end, she won't make it long enough for the coverage to take any effect. Sadly, this means that we do not have the financial ability to pay for our mother's funeral expenses and the co-pays for her medical bills any longer. This has left our family with the crippling weight of mourning our mom and fearing that we will not be able to give our mother the funeral that she needs and deserves.

We have done everything within our power to help ourselves, not only to make ends meet and to cover the medical bills, but we are terribly short. Her children have created this fundraising account so our parents can find peace during this time and know that it will be covered when the time comes that our mother returns to live with her Heavenly Father. Although this is very hard, we know that we are at a point where we do not have any other choice.

Thank you for your consideration. Please share this with anyone and everyone to help our dear parents. To read more about their story please visit our family blog http://kenkenningtonfamily.blogspot.com
