The Story

You have probably never heard of Louis Hunter, but his cousin was shot and killed by the police during a traffic stop in St. Anthony, Minnesota on July 6, 2016. Thousands rose in protest to his cousin’s murder, but only Louis was singled out (with false allegations!) and charged with two counts of felony riot and faced up to 20 years in prison for something he did not do. The authorities took Louis’ vehicle which he used to work his small landscaping business and never gave it back. Louis was also evicted from his apartment which he had been a perfect tenant at for over one year. And on top of all of that, he and his daughters were terrorized by the idea that he could be sentenced for up to 20 years in prison for something he did not do. Many in the community rallied in Louis’ support and got the bogus charges against him dropped but not before his life was leveled. I am a volunteer for Louis Hunter working to raise awareness about him and his situation and trying to garner the immense community support and love he and his daughters deserve.   We have recently officially formed Louis’ landscaping business – Our Community Landscaping & Maintenance, and Louis is motivated to grow his business and give back to the community. Let’s help Louis rebuild his life that was unjustly leveled with the basics that everyone deserves – safe and stable housing, insurance, a reliable replacement vehicle so he can get around and run his landscaping business, food, clothing, and self-care.

The charges against Louis Hunter were dropped!!! We are absolutely elated, and Louis made the following statement:

"I want to give the honor and thanks to God my creator. I couldn’t have done this without him. I want to say thanks to my family for sticking with me. Thanks to my lawyer Tim Phillips. You are an amazing lawyer and thank you for sticking in there with me. It was a rough road, but I told you we had this. Thanks to my support committee who has been with me this whole year, throughout this whole case. I want to thank my pastor Celeste Webb for all that he has done for me and for being a good mentor to me. Thanks to all the arrestees who delayed their cases to stand with me. It means a lot to me and my family. I want to thank everyone who stepped up recently to help me and my family through this hard time. Thanks to the whole community for believing in me."

We are deeply grateful for your support of Louis! While we will take the time to celebrate this incredible victory, we also realize that Louis also needs to rebuild his life now. His vehicle which allowed him to work his landscaping was taken and never returned, and he was evicted from his home and has not found stable housing. Any and all support you can give will help him rebuild his life for him and his girls.
