As a recent recipient of the Best of Charles County Award, Nails & Faces of Joy Spa has just launched the Survive and Thrive Program that offers service to current cancer patients.

Survive and Thrive allows patients during their diagnosis to receive (1) complimentary service on a monthly bases ranging from wig styling to eyebrow creation. With the required doctor’s note or social worker’s referral detailing what they can receive, patients can find a way to adapt to their newfound appearance that cancer treatment creates.

The passion behind Survive and Thrive program stems from owner, Joy A. Johnson, personal connection with the disease. Her mother was a fashion model, battled breast cancer, became a survivor as it went into remission, was engaged to get married and she then died from a car accident.

“I watched my mother’s appearance deteriorate. If the pain of cancer treatment isn’t enough for one to go through, the physical changes, effects patients –while battling the disease, heighten the trauma and struggle especially for women who feel forced to abandon the joy of a beauty routine.”

While confidential Johnson shows patience and compassion as they’re key elements with her now being a volunteer beauty professional with a nationally well-known organization that provides support to cancer patients. She volunteers in local hospitals and cancer support centers showing women how to adapt and enhance their new appearance with the negative effects that cancer, chemo, and radiation sometimes cause.
