I suffered a head injury last year, and was off work for a month. As anyone who's suffered a head trauma can tell you, even after getting back to work I wasn't "well."
As my loved ones know, I was recently re-injured, although thankfully due to the circumstances it occured under, the medical care for second injury is being covered by a third party. However, the bills from the first injury are taking a massive toll on me.
Between urgent care, tests, er visits, evaluations and lost wages, it's feeling impossible to get ahold of the medical bills. My friends and family have already done what they can to help me out, but their means are limited.
Neither myself, nor anyone in my family, is savvy to any part of the health care system. I'd never had to negotiate anything like that before, and it seemed like the bills never stopped coming. They wanted them paid in full almost as soon as I received them. I received some of them 2 days before they wanted money from me! So of course, some of them got put on a credit card I couldn't really afford and am now scraping to make the minimum payments on. I finally figured out how to finance some of this stuff through hospital billing, but that *has* to be paid off within a year. I make minimum wage. When you make minimum wage, the idea of thousands of dollars in medical bills is terrifying.
I've been doing my best to scrimp and cut and now I'm going through and trying to sell all my old stuff. But at this point I've got to bite the bullet and ask for help. Anything you are able to share would be so helpful. Your generosity is so, so appreciated.
