Today we need your help in building a safe, affordable home for Jeffrey Colter and his seven-year-old daughter Jayla. With your generous support, the Colter family’s dreams of homeownership can become a reality.
Jeffrey, a single father, graduated from Lawrence High School in 2005 and received a football scholarship to attend Northwest Missouri State University in Marysville, Missouri, where he studied Education and Health. He is employed with USD 497 as a para-professional, serves as an assistant football coach at LHS, and also attends Johnson County Community College, where he is furthering his studies in Health Education. Jayla enjoys cheerleading, basketball, t-ball, art, and math. Her dream is to one day become a professional basketball player.
Jeffrey says that he and Jayla are beyond excited to be selected as a Habitat family, and that the opportunity is life-changing. "Housing in Lawrence is not always affordable," says Jeffrey. "Thanks to Habitat, Jayla and I will have stable housing, and we will be forever grateful."
Please help us make Jeffrey’s dream possible, providing the opportunity for his daughter Jayla to grow up in a decent, affordable home in a community they love. Every little bit helps, and with it we can begin building their new home in the spring of 2017.
About Lawrence Habitat for Humanity:
At Lawrence Habitat for Humanity we empower through shelter. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and our goal is to provide decent, affordable housing for low to moderate income families in and around Lawrence, Kansas. We believe in a homeownership process that empowers families to create ongoing change in their lives. We are an organization that offers a hand up, not a hand-out.
The journey our homeowners take is a long process that begins with hundreds of hours of sweat equity and continues throughout their no-interest mortgage. Lawrence Habitat was incorporated in 1989 under the guidance of Rev. John Gingerich and has since built 93 houses and counting.
