The Story

Lauren, proud mama to her miracle baby Nico, was able to enjoy almost 2 years in remission after being diagnosed with breast cancer while she was pregnant last year. She received her diagnosis a few short hours after having her first prenatal ultrasound and underwent chemotherapy throughout her entire pregnancy. After spending a love-filled first year with her son, she recently was given the devastating news that her cancer is back and has spread. Now being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, for which there is no cure, Lauren will be on treatment for the foreseeable future. She will begin aggressive chemotherapy along with immunotherapy next week. We have set up this site as a place for donations for Lauren, her husband Ian and son, Nico. Donations will cover the excess of medical expenses that Lauren will incur as well as help supplement the work she will be missing for treatment.

Lauren spends her life sharing the joy of music with others by performing for children and giving back to the community. She has been an inspiration, not only to me, but to everyone I have encountered that knows her. I don't believe for a second that Lauren came into my life by chance. We met through an expecting mom group and have never looked back. It takes a village.

'You say goodbye and I say hello' - The Beatles

I sit here, trying to find the right words. Words that will honor everything that Lauren was. And it's hard. It's hard to sit with the realization that she isn't on this Earth with us anymore. It's been 2 months since she passed away. 2 months. It feels like forever and like yesterday since we last talked. She will always live on in our hearts, in our actions, but most of all, in sweet little Nico. Her greatest gift was getting to love that sweet boy. She will continue to inspire us to do great things. To take challenges head on and to make the best of any situation. She really is the most amazing woman I have ever met.

Her vision of the Mommy & Me Warrior Supply Packs organization is coming to fruition. Ian, Joni, and I, with the help of so many amazing people, are working hard on continuing her hard work and dedication to others. Her love for others was amazing. She was patient and kind and loved so deeply. Through her own trials and tribulations, she still thought of others. Of how she could help and comfort others going through what she was. We will do our best to make her proud of the vision she started.

This will be the last post on this fund. We will be closing it on Sunday. It's time. The outpouring of love and generosity has been overwhelming and appreciated. Thank you to everyone who donated and had kind words for the Smoke Family. You truly made a difference in their lives.

Stay forever and always #smokestrong

She Lives On

One month ago our dear, sweet, Lauren left this Earth. She will never truly be gone; she is alive. Alive in our hearts and our minds. She is alive in the many memories we've seen shared on her social media. She is alive every time we look at sweet little Nico and her amazing husband, Ian. She will never leave us. She will live on through all of the kindness and compassion that she shared with everyone she came in contact with in her all-too-short life. There are very few words to express the void of her presence that can never be filled. She has inspired so many, including myself to do better. To live life to the fullest extent possible and to never stop fighting for what we believe in. Never stop fighting for what's right. She was a warrior.

She was a warrior for herself. She was a warrior for others. She fought. Hard. Even in her last months, she still desired to help others that will have to go through what she had. She started the planning for a foundation to provide pregnant women in treatment with supplies and information. To show them that they matter. That we care. That they are warriors. With Ian's blessing, Lauren's friend Joni and I will be working with him to finish what Lauren has started. Lauren's vision for 'Mommy & Me Warrior Supply Packs' will be coming to fruition very soon. This foundation, in memorial or our beloved Lauren, will help so many others like herself to be warriors.

Thank you all for your continued support and kind words and memories shared of our warrior. She was truly one-of-a-kind and is missed every single day.

Stay forever and always #smokestrong

Today we honored Lauren at a celebration of her all too short but amazing life. The memorial was absolutely beautiful and filled with songs and anecdotes from close family and friends. Listening to the impacts that Lauren has made produced proud and joyous tears. I feel lucky to have known her as did so so many others. There were friends and family from all over the country, and beyond, in attendance. She is missed but will never be forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who who has supported the Smoke Family through the past couple of years. Every good thought, prayer and act of kindness has meant the world to them.

Cheers to you Lauren Smoke. You've made this world a better place.

Stay forever and always #smokestrong
