The Story

We're asking for your help...help to pay 2 year old Scout's emergency medical bills.  This happy, sweet lovebug arrived at an inland empire shelter as a stray, and came down with kennel cough while he was there.  He was put into their isolation ward, but they told us there were no guarantees if they needed space....we all know what that means.
Lab Rescuers jumped in and grabbed him.  Unfortunately, while we were treating his kennel cough, it turned into pneumonia.  He was rushed to a 24-hour emergency hospital and was immediately put on oxygen and iv antibiotics...and had no real improvement over the next 48 hours.  Adding to the pneumonia, his intestine became severely dilated and the ultrasound revealed bloating and substantial amounts of fluid in the intestinal tract.  This caused extreme concern from the vets', fearing his intestine would rupture at any moment and kill him.  Surgery was not an option due to his pneumonia and overall very poor condition...so we had to wait and hope for the best.  Thankfully, Scout didn't have an obstruction and was eventually able to pass the large volume of fluid.  While he's not quite out of the woods, he's turning the corner.  The cost of his care for being in ICU, numerous tests, antibiotics, breathing treatments, two days of being on oxygen, blood panels, chest and abdominal x-rays, ultrasounds, etc, will be about $7,000.    But he's worth every penny of that!  We have already raised $2,000 toward his care.
Your donation to Lab Rescuers will assist us in paying Scout's bills, and enable us to continue saving other Labs in need.  Every donation is very much appreciated.  We are extremely happy that Scout pulled through and we've been able to save his life.  Without your support, we couldn't do the work we do.  Thank you so very much for your generous donation.

Scout spent part of his first day at his new home enjoying some fresh air on the patio.  We're sure it was a very welcome change after spending more than 17 days inside a hospital.

Scout is getting stronger every day but still has a way to go and hopefully he'll get to be free of the dreaded cone soon.

After ten days of isolation boarding followed by seven days of critical care hospitalization, Scout was finally released over the weekend. He has lost a lot of weight and is still on many medications but is finally on the road to recovery.  Scout is now with his foster family, who plan on adopting him, once he gets his medical release and is able to be neutered.  Many thanks to them for not only rehabbing him back to health but also for making a considerable contribution towards his bill.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Lab Rescuers is able to save dogs like Scout who made it out of the shelter just in time given the severity of his illness.
