***Update*** Kristi is #4 on the University of Utah Lung Transplant List. However, her surgery can be delayed if she doesn't have the funds to pre-pay the doctor's bills. I know that sounds terrible, but that is the reality. Please contribute to help this amazing young mom get the new lungs she needs to live a long, healthy and thriving life. She deserves the gift of life.***
Kristi is a bright, kind and beautiful young wife and mom who was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer that has spread to her lungs. My name is Shannon and I started this YouCaring page to help Kristi beat cancer. I met her through my daughter's Karate class where her step-son, Leo, and my daughter became fast friends. Kristi, her husband Ray, and Leo are a kind, sweet, hard-working, young family who need our help.
Almost 3 years ago, Kristi was sick for some time and visited a local hospital for help several times. She was misdiagnosed time after time. Several months went by before she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer when she was 22. By that time, the aggressive cancer had spread. She has had several surgeries to remove tumors throughout her body, including at the base of her spine. She started to get better and then a devastating diagnosis was delivered of small cell lung cancer.
She's been through multiple chemo and radiation treatments and has had a small stroke. With all of this her hope shines bright that she can live a long and healthy life with her husband Ray and step-son Leo. Her drive, gentle spirit and hopeful outlook have inspired me so much. Through so much adversity, she gives as much as she can to raise her step-son. Leo is an amazing, kind and loving young man who strives to do his best. Ray is an amazing young father doing his best to provide and care for the needs of his family.
Kristi is currently on the lung transplant list and her doctors feel this is her best chance for a full recovery. Her cancer is currently under control, however, her lungs are so damaged that she can not survive without a lung transplant.
The financial strain on her family has been tremendous. To get onto the transplant list, she needed to raise $5,000 to be paid in advance. Her family and friends have worked hard to help her raise this money but more is needed for her to be eligible for the surgery and to cover her ongoing medical expenses.
It's sad to say that without funding, she could be bumped from the transplant list. Please help Kristi, Ray and Leo beat cancer and give Kristi the bright future of health and life she deserves.
Your kindness and generosity are so much appreciated!
