We are a group of young Muslim women, femmes, and non-binary people of color in Chicago that aspire to organize and advocate for our communities locally and internationally. We will facilitate healing circles and spaces for discussions, legal support, political education and teach-ins for our community and our allies, self-defense trainings, solidarity work with local groups, and more as our needs grow and change.
In order to facilitate this space and maximize our reach, we need your help! Following the results of the 2016 presidential elections, this work is more urgent than ever. Our communities have already seen spikes in hate crimes since the start of the presidential campaigns and we can only imagine what is to come. We want to be proactive and protect our communities from bigotry, civil rights violations, and systemic oppression.
We are asking our family, friends, community, neighbors, and allies for support. We see immediate needs of at least $5,000 in startup funds to cover self-defense training; print and produce zines, “know your rights” pamphlets, and other political educational materials; secure accessible and safe meeting spaces; conduct virtual and in-person outreach; and build other community-based projects and initiatives designed to keep our people safe.
