The Story

The evening of December 7, 2015 my and Uncle and Aunt's - Ken and Anne Boydston - home was completely destroyed by a fire. Their son Aaron also resided there with his wife Natalie and their two children. The house is gone.

Anne is an artist in Ojai and all of her artwork and supplies have been destroyed along with everything in the home. I don't have words to describe the losses.

These funds are to provide assistance in this time of great need for a family who has been a big part of their community. Their home has been open to all of us through the years, and I hope we can help them rebuild.

As many of you know, and perhaps many don’t, Aaron had a very extreme form of leukemia in in 2006 through 2007, that had him in and out of the UCLA hospital for over a year. He received a stem cell transplant that saved his life, and allowed him to continue to be a husband to Natalie and a father to their two children.
They were living with Ken and Anne - Aaron’s parents - because of the enormous medical bill debt they are still handling. Yes, it is the end of 2015, and are are still in debt for the cost of his life.
I recently found out about this, and am upping the fundraising goal. When I started this fundraiser, I had no idea of the scope of the situation. I saw the house I spent a lot of time my whole life going up in flames, and wanted to help immediately. Beyond helping with the ins and outs of setting up a new Boulderhaven from the ruins of Smolderhaven, this money will help Aaron and Natalie be able to have some breathing room while finding a place to rent and keeping up on the medical bill payments.
Everyone in the Boydston family, and everyone who loves them, is very thankful for all the support.

I spoke to Rosemarie this evening - she had been back to her hometown to help with the post-fire situation. She just started to read through the comments left with the donations and was overwhelmed with the massive amount of support and love shown to her family. Ken, Anne, Aaron, and Natalie are receiving a lot of help from their local community, and they know love is being poured out from all of us from far away.

As they shift through the rubble and ashes, they have found a few precious things, but there is a lot of work to be done. I posted a photo of a few pieces of artwork that Celeste had made long ago. I cried when I saw them, because I never thought I would again.

I continue to do my best to route any questions sent to me to the proper channels.
