Hello friends and family, I wanted to share what God has put on my heart and what I have decided to do after graduation! I have chosen to take a gap year from college to explore a new path in missions and the teachings of the lord through YWAM Priceless DTS. YWAM is the organization Youth With A Mission, it is an evangelical interdenominational, nonprofit Christian, missionary organization that serves about 180 countries. Within YWAM they offer a program called Discipleship Training School, this program seeks to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God. It also gives you an opportunity to discover your passions and your part in God’s purposes for the world. It is for those who long to follow Jesus in new ways with a different perspective. Which, the course is a full-time program and lasts five or six months.
The DTS I have chosen and I feel God has put on my heart is the Priceless DTS located in Perth, Australia. This DTS' purpose is to grow in your relationship with God and gain tools to minister to the enslaved - engaging issues such as human trafficking, prostitution and slavery. The school consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. The lecture phase includes three months of intensive teaching, discipleship, growth, and practical application. Not only does it include classroom lectures, but regular times of worship and prayer, community outreach, adventures, hands-on serving, discussion times, smalls groups, and one-on-one discipleship. During the DTS, we will have weekly human trafficking and prostitution workshops. We will learn about many different issues relating to human slavery (i.e. overview of human trafficking, dealing with demand, sexual abuse, pornography, etc.) and learn how to respond. We will be trained to use an anti-trafficking toolkit and learn how to minister to those in prostitution. After the lecture phase we will move on to the Outreach Phase, which is when we get the opportunity to apply and live out all that we've learned during the lecture phase. The Priceless DTS teams will specifically focus on locations that are prevalent for human trafficking and prostitution. There will be many types of opportunities on outreach to serve including teaching, advocacy, meeting practical needs, evangelism, working with "at-risk" groups, reaching out to men, women and children involved in labor and sex trafficking and many other ways. The destination won't be told to us until we get to the DTS, but the places they went to last year are: Asia (Nepal, Thailand), Europe and the Middle East (Greece, Middle East), and Europe (Greece, France, Germany).
Im excited to start this new journey, however, that being said I would appreciate any help from my friends and family. The total cost for the whole trip will be about $12,000 that I need to come up with. This total cost includes: the plane ticket to/from Australia (about $3,000), student visa and health insurance ($900), lecture phase ($3,580),the Outreach phase ($5,500), and gear that I might also need! I would be thankful for any kind of financial help and prayer that you send my way!!
