We need help to keep college students and great children's radio programs on the air. For 37 years Grand View University has leased air time from the Des Moines Public Schools to put on educational shows, allowing college students to learn to be announcers, promoting the school to the community, and playing Kids Radio Mania all weekend and summers. It reaches tens of thousands with its positive message, but will no longer be on the air starting January 1st, 2018, unless we raise the funds! No more music mix that is like no other in town, no more Grand View athletics, no more Julesfest concert around Christmas, and no more offering kids in their cars on the weekend a clean family-friendly alternative to rock radio.
Grand View no longer provides funding for us to stay on KDPS, and now we in the college communication department have to raise outside money in order to keep us from going off the air. We are starting with a goal of $8,000 by December 1st, which will keep us on the air during the spring and summer of 2018. Your tax-deductible donation is going to Grand View University, a non-profit educational institution, and will not to be used as part of the general operating budget for the school. Ultimately we'll have to raise another $18,000 for the 2018-2019 school year, and will try to raise much of it with program sponsorships. If you have questions or would like to sponsor a show, contact Professor Stephen Winzenburg at [email protected] or call 515-263-2997.
We have won the Radio Station of the Year Award for eight years straight from the Iowa College Media Association, and have received over 10,000 calls from kids over the years wanting to win donated prizes. We love giving back to the community, but now we need your help. Please help us keep the station on the air so we can continue to help college students become educated in radio and give children a weekend or summer clean alternate to everything else on the radio. Thank you!
