We are humbly reaching out to ask for your assistance for Kayla and her family in their fight against cancer.
Anyone that knows Kayla, loves her. She is the sweetest daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, teammate, babysitter, and friend, that anyone could ever ask for and right now, she needs our love and support.
Last Thursday, a tumor was discovered on Kayla's brain. She was taken immediately to Children's Hospital in Vancouver where she underwent an 8 hour surgery to remove the tumor. Although Kayla has shown some positive signs to her recovery from the surgery, the results of the biopsy show that she has a challenging road ahead. The tumor they removed was cancerous. This brain cancer is called Medulla Blastomy and it is Stage 4. Further testing is being done to determine if the cancer has spread to Kayla's spine. Crazy to think that only a week prior she was playing hockey with her teammates. Kayla will begin a 6 week radiation treatment in about 3 weeks, after she has gained some more strength. After 4 weeks of rest, she will then begin chemotherapy.
The doctors have told Leah and Arnie to prepare to stay in Vancouver for quite some time. They are trying to access resources like Ronald McDonald House, but these resources are limited and are not long term. They both wish to stay by Kayla's side, but this is and will continue to create a big financial burden on them. We are hoping to alleviate some of this strain by supporting them financially any way we can. Any donation would be greatly appreciate.
Kayla and her family are strong and we have faith in their ability to get through this difficult time. We will continue to update you and hope that you can take a moment to send some positive energy and love to the Garcia/Gray Families.
