Fundraiser Updates

It's been a while since I gave you all an update. Today, being Veterans Day, seems to be an appropriate time.

The process has been slow, and at times, arduous. The Philippines have also been in an Election process. This has affected all levels of Government and "law and order" was a key area for the candidates. Our attorneys are also involved in Government and elections for office.

The accused sought bail earlier this Summer. The bail process is a lengthy and complicated one. Essentially, there has to be a "mini" trial to determine if there is a case, and charges, to answer that would be exempt from the bail process.

Whilst this seems a bit extreme, it does keep the accused in prison until that matter is determined, and of course it can be very influential in the actual trial proceedings.

We are happy to report that all claims for bail were determined to be unfounded and all of the accused remain in prison awaiting trial.

To give you more detail, the minor (at the time of the crime), has taken a plae deal for murder and is giving evidence against the other two who are in jail.

This deal ensures that he is charged as a minor and will serve his punishment under the guidelines set out for minors.

We await a hearing date for the trial for murder of the two currently held.

I hear some of you saying to yourselves "Two plus one equals three. Wasn't there another?". Yes, the charge sheets against the accused state; "John Doe, an unidentified male, remains at large" etc, etc.

Please rest assured that the fact that the police have been unable to find "John Doe", does not bother me.  I seriously doubt they ever will and I don't consider it at all a coincidence that the day after his disappearance was the very day the other two were apprehended.
Karma? Perhaps. Fortuitous? Maybe. Justice? Most definitely.

I know that there have been some further donations (and we very much appreciate every penny), but the costs are continuing. Contingencies are, however, pro bono.

We hope you will join us and take a moment of reflection on this Veterans Day to spare a thought for those who served.

Thank you.

Phil is coming home today.  The fight for #JusticeforPhilPrins is only just beginning.
THANK YOU for your kindness & generosity as we support Phil's family through this tragedy.  Each donation is helping to offset the enormous burden caused from this senseless act.

We will provide details for the State side Celebration of Life of Phil Prins in the coming days.

Post from Phil on Dec 6th:

With all the craziness in the world going on these days, I thought I would share something that might help restore people's faith in humanity. I have spent a lot of time working with the NGO featured in this video that a friend and myself shot and put together. The people I have met there help balance out my cynicism by showing me that their are truly good and decent people in this world dedicated to making their communities a better place. Its people and projects like this t...hat remind me that despite humanities many failings, there is balance from time to time. Thank you to Frederica and Giacomo for sharing their experience with me and to Francis James Kho for all your help. For some reason the video won't play on FB so just click on the link and it will take you to the actual Youtube video.
