The Story

My name is Katherine and I’ve got Stage IV breast cancer, which means the disease has spread to different parts of my body and is now incurable.

I’m raising funds to enable me to access cancer treatment that isn’t currently available on the NHS. I’m hoping to raise enough money to have treatment at a private cancer clinic in Germany.

Despite having disease in my liver, lungs, bones and brain, I’ve been able to enjoy a reasonable quality of life until recently. Unfortunately the last two drugs have failed and CT scans have shown progression in all areas of my body.

The disease and it’s treatments are beginning to take their toll. I have recently undergone treatment for painful bone metastases as well as radiotherapy to my brain. I'm becoming increasingly unwell. This has forced me to explore treatments not currently available in the UK.

German cancer clinics are at the cutting edge of cancer treatment and although there are no guarantees with any cancer-treatment, I feel that going there will give me the opportunity to tackle the disease in a different way. The treatments proposed by the clinic include Tumour Antigen Screening, Peptide Vaccinationsand Immunotherapy.

This life-saving business doesn't come cheap and this is where you come in. My goal is to raise £40,000 which will cover the cost of my initial stay along with return visits.

Two years ago you helped me raise funds for my Tumour Profiling report, a report which was worth it's weight in gold. It's taken me a lot of courage to ask for your help again but this time it's different. My situation is becoming ever more desperate and I'm running out of treatment options here in the UK. The treatments I hope to have in Germany could be life-saving.

Friends are kicking off the fundraising with a Charity ceilidhin Manchester and others are doing more extreme challenges. You're an adventurous lot, but I know that not everyone wants to climb Everest or run an ultra-marathon.  So if you're looking for an excuse to dust off those trainers or maybe even host a cake sale, then here it is!!

Any donations no matter how small will be gratefully received and will contribute towards me reaching my goal xxx

In the unfortunate event that I'm unable to utilise funds raised, these will be donated to the new UK secondary breast cancer charity Second Hope. Likewise any funds not required for medical treatment will be donated to Second Hope.

We are sorry to announce that Katherine passed away peacefully on 25th April 2016 and was unable to travel to Germany for treatment.   The end came much quicker than expected but she was at home in Scotland being cared for by her family for the two weeks prior to her death.  As previously intimated by Kath, it was her wish that should she not be able to travel to Germany, the funds raised would go to, a charity for people living with advanced breast cancer. Once the legal procedures are completed the money raised will be donated in accordance with Katherine's wishes.
Katherine's family would like to thank each and everyone who donated to this cause. The love and support shown for Katherine meant so much to her and to all of us and has helped us through what has been a very difficult time.

Yippee we smashed the £10,000 milestone and thanks to your heroic efforts we're now at a staggering £10,673!!

This will allow me to proceed with first stage of treatment at Hallwang TAA (tumor-associated-antigenScreenings). All being well I hope to fly out on Sunday the 24th of April for a consultation and to get the ball rolling with treatment.

I'm hoping Friday nights fundraising ceilidh will bring us ever closer to reaching my target. There are still tickets available and the raffle prize list keeps on growing. There are some fantastic prizes on offer on the night.

Here's the link to buy tickets:

Hi everyone, I just want to say a MASSIVE  thankyou to everyone who has donated so far. Every penny counts. I'm sorry I can't reply to all your messages individually but I've been really moved by your generosity and support.

There's a ceilidh coming up on Friday 22nd April a St Kent's Irish Club in Manchester. They've got a great ceilidh band Mouse's nest, raffle of the century followed by a good old fashioned discco!! A night not to be missed!! You can read more about the ceilidh here: MEN article

Please keep sharing the love xxx
