Karma Project is a nonprofit organization that helps mountain tourism workers build their own sustainable businesses. In 2013, Karma Project helped Karma Geljen Sherpa of Sibuje Village create Nepal Alpine Guides to organize and guide high elevation mountaineering and trekking expeditions. This winter, Nepal Alpine Guides and Karma Project are working together to provide formal rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain rescue, wilderness medicine, and outdoor leadership training to local Nepalese guides in the Everest and Makalu Regions.
Katie Fairman and Jacob Willson are very excited to be working with Karma Project to attend the Himalayan Alpine Climbing course and climbing Mera Peak in Nepal this winter. We are fundraising to collect monetary donations from friends and family, and collecting mountaineering gear and equipment donations from corporate sponsors. Every paid attendant funds the course for one and a half local Nepalese Guides, providing them with formal training and quality gear that would otherwise be very difficult to access.
