The Story

My name is Justyna, and I am 31 years old.
In life we tend to use a lot of sayings to illustrate truths and commonalities of the human condition. I often heard it said that, “someone should walk a mile or wheel a mile in someone else’s shoes."

In this letter, I will attempt to present YOU, its kind reader, with that kind of experience.  For a brief moment try to imagine you couldn't straighten your legs. Ask yourself, how hard it would be to walk if your legs were permanently bent. If you are an able-bodied person, I bet you've never even considered straight legs as a BLESSING. Now, have you? I know firsthand that straight legs are a HUGE BLESSING; I know because due to my disability (I was born with Cerebral Palsy) I'm living with the impossibility of straightening my knees. In my opinion, classifying this impossibility as “difficult” would be an understatement, but you don't have to take my word for it. Just ask yourself these simple questions: How far do you think you would be able to walk if your knees were bent to approximately 90°? If you were in my place, do you think it would be hard for you to keep your balance? What other daily tasks do you think could be difficult for you to do? Would this impossibility to straighten your knees have the ability to cause you pain and physical discomfort? If you answered these questions truthfully, now you have a little bit of an idea of what life with bent knees could be like for me on a daily basis.

Now, imagine my happiness when a doctor in the United States qualified me for a laser surgery that isn't performed here in Canada.  This surgery has the ability to help me stand on straight legs once again and could possibly make my difficulties, and the pain associated with them a thing of the past. You may be saying, "So what is standing in your way to just go through with the surgery?" Well, I want to, but there is one huge hurdle standing in my way. “What is it?” you ask.  This medical solution to my problems comes with a hefty price tag. The costs include: hospital, doctor, and post-surgery physical therapy fees. All in all, when everything is said and done, will probably end up adding up to approximately $20,000 (Canadian).

My family and I cannot afford that on our own, so we are asking kind-hearted people like you to help and donate whatever you can. Every dollar counts, and will help me stand on straight legs. You are either reading these words in a fundraising letter given to you by one of my friends or off a fundraising website my friends and I have created. However my plea for help has reached you please, please, please, open your heart and help me.

Thank you
Sincerely, Justyna Z

Hello everyone, it's me Justyna.

Thanks to many people with open heart,I have undergone the surgery. For the last month I have endured intense physiotherapy four times a week. Today is a landmark day in my life. I won't write about it too much here, for I'll let you see it with your own two eyes.

I want to send out a huge thank you to all three of my physical therapy; I'm also sending a big prayer of thanksgiving up to God in heaven.

However, I have no intention of stopping here. No! I want to go all the way. I want to walk independently just got to make sure my family and I don't run out of financial reverses. So, please keep the shares and donations coming.

Thank you from the bottom of not only my heart but my whole being.

Justyna

It's only been four days since this you caring campaign page is completely functional. I can't believe that in this short-time span we have reached and surpassed the $1000 milestone. This $1000 celebration was made possible thanks to both friends and complete strangers who I'll probably never cross paths with again in my life time. No matter which group YOU are from please know that you will forever have a place in my heart, for you had a part in giving me hope of a life with no pain and better balance.

Thank you and God Bless you all. Please keep spreading the word about me and this fundraiser.
