This is a crazy-cool story! While living in Nashville, Tennessee for six years, we were surrounded by friends that adopted, and it set our family on a path to begin talking and praying about adoption. During our time in Nashville, Elijah and Justin had the opportunity to go to Kenya, Africa where they met our sponsored child through Compassion International. Soon thereafter, Trish met our other sponsored child in Guatemala. Through those experiences, our vision was to pursue international adoption.
Last fall, we wanted to be open to all the different possibilities of adoption and started the foster care certification process. After going through part of the class requirement, we realized that wasn’t the direction we should pursue as we were starting the church. As we were planting Hope City, a woman and her family started attending our church who runs an adoption agency. We shared with her the journey we’ve been on to adopt.
Last Thursday we received an email from our sweet friend about two kids in need of a home. The subject said: Possible Adoption Situation. Then the email said, "Hey Justin & Trisha! I wanted to share this with you both to see if this is something you would consider?" The little boy is nine years old and the little girl is seven years old. Their siblings have already been adopted by another family. We looked at each other and said, "How can we not consider this?"
We didn't have a whole lot of time, but took the weekend to pray about God's direction in adopting these two children. We met with the adoption agency and provided a makeshift profile with some information about our current family for the birthmother to get to know us.
Tonight, we spoke with the birthmother on the phone for an hour, and just got word that she has chosen us to be her children's adoptive family. We are excited, overwhelmed and blown away at God's timing. On Wednesday of next week we will meet the kids for a play-date and then bring them home next weekend. Like in 10 days.
This whole process has been one that only God could orchestrate. There are so many things that have to come together and a ton of details to be worked out. Throughout this whole process, we've just said to God that we'd walk through the next open door. We didn't get caught up in the paperwork or the financial costs initially because there were so many other details to work through.
The reality is it will take a village and a miracle to raise the money needed to bring the kids home in 10 days. How can this happen? We are asking for the help of our friends and family in this process. First, we need your prayers. We need God to show up in BIG ways and we desperately need prayer. Secondly, we could use your financial help. We have a very small window to come up with the financial resources to cover all the adoption expenses.
We hope you'll join us on this amazing adventure! Six days ago we were a family of five. Then, God.
Every Tweet you share, every Facebook post you give to this cause will help us get the word out on our God sized dream to become a family of seven. Every financial contribution you make will go directly to helping provide these two precious children a home. We will update you every step of the way!
