The Story

My beloved sister, Julie Elizabeth Behar (aka Elizabeth Brooks), age 40, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, metastasized, on November 8th, 2016. Some people go their entire lives looking for their soulmate but I met mine before I turned 3. I loved my baby sister from the moment I saw her. She is my best friend, my other half, my family; I cannot imagine my life without her.

Julie is the mother of four beautiful children - Isabelle, Ariana, Eli, and Adam - ages 15 - 4 months and we plan to use every available avenue of treatment and support to help her fight to get well for them. The cancer has already spread to several organs and her lymph nodes and she needs to start aggressive treatment ASAP.

Julie moved with her boyfriend, Daniel, and the kids to Eugene, OR just this summer; she gave birth to her baby boy and was just about to start a new job when acute pains sent her to the hospital on Wednesday, 11/8 leading to the terrible diagnosis. Julie had to have emergency surgery to remove the tumor from her colon on Friday.

Unfortunately, her new job's insurance had not yet kicked in and she had a gap in coverage, so her hospital bills are already huge and mounting by the day. As she recovers from surgery so she can start additional treatments, Julie and her family need help to offset the financial stress this fight brings with it. Obviously she is unable to work at this time and her boyfriend will need to take time off in order to help care for her and the kids.

I ask you to give anything you can and share this story to help me in helping her win the battle for her life and continue to meet the needs of her family. My sister has always been a fighter and sometimes a loner, but she cannot do this alone so we need all the help we can get.

We will be updating this post soon with an additional link for a service that facilitates providing meals, childcare, etc to assist the family in other ways as well.

We will also continue to update you on her progress.

Thank you all in advance. Any and all support given means the world to me.

As most of you know, my beautiful sister passed away two weeks ago. I promised her before she died that I would make sure her kids were ok. I am now doing my best to honor that promise. I have created a new fund for the 4 young children she leaves behind. All money raised will go into trust funds for them to help ensure their future. Please consider donating if you are able and please share the fund as every share counts. Thank you all so much for your love and support. It means everything. XO

For those of you following my sister’s story and who have given to this fund and shown us so much love and support, I want to say thank you with all my heart. Last April, Julie Elizabeth was accepted into a medical trial where they placed a pump that delivered chemo directly into her liver (which is the organ affected most by her cancer). The pump functioned as it should have and for several months, along with the systemic chemo she received through her port, she felt much better and we thought perhaps she was on her way to recovery. Unfortunately the pump stopped working and as of last month, she is now back on regular chemo and cannabis. Her fight just got that much harder and her body has been through trauma I can’t begin to explain. Obviously, she is unable to return to work and yet still has 4 children to provide for. Please consider donating if you can. Every bit helps. Thank you a million times over. Thank you.

Last month, Julie Elizabeth had surgery where they installed a pump that gives chemo directly to her liver. This surgery was 10 hours long and there were several complications, but she is now recovering and I'm thrilled to say that the pump works and while the cancer has grown a bit - it's being treated with the pump. In two weeks she will also start to get full body chemo to combat more of the cancer.

Unfortunately all of this has taken a huge toll on her physically, emotionally, and financially. So while she is doing far better than anyone ever expected (yay!), she still has so much to fight. Every time she gets chemo put into the pump or receives the full body dose, she needs to travel 4 hours round trip. She is still unable to work, as is her fiancé (he proposed to her over Christmas!) since he is caring for her, their infant son, and assisting with her other three children. Because of this, they recently lost their housing and had to move to a small 3 bedroom condo. They are a family of 6. They are I desperate need of help. Every little bit helps. Every share helps.

Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much all the help we have received means to us, or how inspriring my sister is. She's a true warrior. Please help me help her continue her war.
