My beloved sister, Julie Elizabeth Behar (aka Elizabeth Brooks), age 40, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, metastasized, on November 8th, 2016. Some people go their entire lives looking for their soulmate but I met mine before I turned 3. I loved my baby sister from the moment I saw her. She is my best friend, my other half, my family; I cannot imagine my life without her.
Julie is the mother of four beautiful children - Isabelle, Ariana, Eli, and Adam - ages 15 - 4 months and we plan to use every available avenue of treatment and support to help her fight to get well for them. The cancer has already spread to several organs and her lymph nodes and she needs to start aggressive treatment ASAP.
Julie moved with her boyfriend, Daniel, and the kids to Eugene, OR just this summer; she gave birth to her baby boy and was just about to start a new job when acute pains sent her to the hospital on Wednesday, 11/8 leading to the terrible diagnosis. Julie had to have emergency surgery to remove the tumor from her colon on Friday.
Unfortunately, her new job's insurance had not yet kicked in and she had a gap in coverage, so her hospital bills are already huge and mounting by the day. As she recovers from surgery so she can start additional treatments, Julie and her family need help to offset the financial stress this fight brings with it. Obviously she is unable to work at this time and her boyfriend will need to take time off in order to help care for her and the kids.
I ask you to give anything you can and share this story to help me in helping her win the battle for her life and continue to meet the needs of her family. My sister has always been a fighter and sometimes a loner, but she cannot do this alone so we need all the help we can get.
We will be updating this post soon with an additional link for a service that facilitates providing meals, childcare, etc to assist the family in other ways as well.
We will also continue to update you on her progress.
Thank you all in advance. Any and all support given means the world to me.
