The Story

My beloved sister, Julie Elizabeth Behar (aka Elizabeth Brooks), age 40, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, metastasized, on November 8th, 2016. Some people go their entire lives looking for their soulmate but I met mine before I turned 3. I loved my baby sister from the moment I saw her. She is my best friend, my other half, my family; I cannot imagine my life without her.

Julie is the mother of four beautiful children - Isabelle, Ariana, Eli, and Adam - ages 15 - 4 months and we plan to use every available avenue of treatment and support to help her fight to get well for them. The cancer has already spread to several organs and her lymph nodes and she needs to start aggressive treatment ASAP.

Julie moved with her boyfriend, Daniel, and the kids to Eugene, OR just this summer; she gave birth to her baby boy and was just about to start a new job when acute pains sent her to the hospital on Wednesday, 11/8 leading to the terrible diagnosis. Julie had to have emergency surgery to remove the tumor from her colon on Friday.

Unfortunately, her new job's insurance had not yet kicked in and she had a gap in coverage, so her hospital bills are already huge and mounting by the day. As she recovers from surgery so she can start additional treatments, Julie and her family need help to offset the financial stress this fight brings with it. Obviously she is unable to work at this time and her boyfriend will need to take time off in order to help care for her and the kids.

I ask you to give anything you can and share this story to help me in helping her win the battle for her life and continue to meet the needs of her family. My sister has always been a fighter and sometimes a loner, but she cannot do this alone so we need all the help we can get.

We will be updating this post soon with an additional link for a service that facilitates providing meals, childcare, etc to assist the family in other ways as well.

We will also continue to update you on her progress.

Thank you all in advance. Any and all support given means the world to me.

41 years ago today, my best friend in the world was born who happens to be my sister as well. Today she's fighting for her life, and while she still has a long way to go, we are so relieved to report that she's completed a full round of chemo and thanks to that and #cannabis, the cancer has not spread!! Couldn't ask for a better Birthday gift for her. She deserves it. Happy Birthday Julie Elizabeth Brooks. I don't know who I would be without you.

Last week I was with Julie while she started chemo. There were some complications and a bit of trial and error, but she made it through. We are all so grateful for your continued love and support. Please continue to share Julie's story with this link as she won't be returning to work at this point and her boyfriend is now caring for her full time and also currently unemployed. Every little bit helps to ease some of their stress. Thank you so much. XO.

Thank you all so much for continuing to ask how you can help my sister, Julie Elizabeth who is battling Stage IV cancer. Your support and love mean the world to us! My sister is being helped by a nonprofit called Here to Serve (www.heretoserve.org), thanks to Julia Haney, who has set up a care community for her and her kids online. Updates on Julie (who actually goes by Elizabeth these days) will be shared there and the care community will also give those who wish to help (even from a distance) ways to do that. This is the most effective way you can help her and stay in touch with her throughout her journey.

Please go to www.heretoserve.org and click on the JOIN button and fill out the registration form. Be sure to say it is Elizabeth Brooks when they ask who you would like to help. You will receive a confirmation email immediately that confirms your registration was received. Within 24 hours you will receive another email with a link to Elizabeth’s Care Community! Use the link to set up your own personal login in and password to Elizabeth’s Care Community.

We can't thank you enough for your continued prayers, love and support. XO.
