The Story

My name is Jovana and I’m a ceramics artist based in Belgrade, Serbia. Ceramics have always been my passion and I have put all of my love and energy into it. After graduating at the University of Arts in Belgrade, the Faculty of Applied Arts in the ceramics department, I have been in permanent search for possibilities to learn and evolve. Upon graduating, I joined the newly established Blatobran Ceramics Association. As we established an environment for the emergence of new ceramic artists and stabilized Belgrade’s ceramics scene, we managed to open the Blatobran gallery two years later. Based in Belgrade, Blatobran gallery sells and promotes unique and innovative ceramic works produced by ten members of our small atelier. Over the years we managed to create a community and foster a ceramics scene in the city of Belgrade. I have also participated in a variety of shows such as 2016. - 8th Talent Award of the Nassauische Sparkasse, Focus Vessel, KERAMIKMUSEUM WESTERWALD, Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany, 2016. - XIII International Biennial of Miniature Art, Cultural Center Gornji Milanovac, Modern Gallery, Serbia, 2015. - 18. Biennial Exhibition of Serbian Ceramics, Belgrade, Serbia (I won a Gran Prix in this show), 2015. - XVI INTERNACIONAL EX-TEMPORE CERAMICS, Coastal Galleries Piran, Slovenia, 2015- Exhibition of Young Ceramists, Terralha Festival, St Quentine la poterie, France,  2015. - Parcours Céramique, Terralha Festival, St Quentine la poterie, France, 2014. - XV INTERNACIONAL EX-TEMPORE CERAMICS, Coastal Galleries Piran, Slovenia (Honorable mention award) etc. For further information please check out my Curriculum Vitae and Portfolio.

Why am I searching for funds?

I was accepted at one of the world’s most prestigious institutes for ceramics: Ishoken, Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center in Japan. In fact, this is the second time that I got accepted, despite a very strong competition consisting of Ceramic artists from all around the world. The difference now is that last year the institute accepted four candidates worldwide, whereas this year they only accepted two. Unfortunately, mine and my family’s financial situation could not allow me to go to Japan without any scholarship. I believe this is the last chance for me to go, since the Institute accepted me again even though I did not accept the offer the first time (because of the financial situation). I doubt they would accept me for the third time. I strongly believe that only the Ishoken institute program would help me become what I am striving for. Attending this program would be a great honor and opportunity for me to learn, enhance and perfect my skills. I hope to bring new skills and experiences back home and share the knowledge with everyone interested in this subject all around my home country as well as all around the world.

Why do I need your help?

The institute does not offer any scholarships and unfortunately the deadlines to apply for any other relevant scholarship have all expired before the acceptance results were even published. It was not possible to apply for any of them without having a confirmation that I was accepted into the program. Therefore, I need to find another way to finance the one year I would spend at the institute. The average student needs about 170.000,00 YEN per month for living expenses, which would be approximately 2.040.000,00 YEN per year. The training fee is 460.000,00 YEN. The total cost for my education would be approximately 25.000,00 $. I have tried all the possibilities to collect resources for this program but the financial circumstances did not allow me to achieve my goal. The average salary in Serbia is 350 € and as a freelance artist I don’t have the possibility or any chance to even ask for a bank loan. With your help in collecting the necessary amount of money I will do my very best in order to achieve even better results and put all my efforts and strength into fulfilling the expectations.

To conclude

for me going there would make my biggest dream come true. From the bottom of my heart I hope that with your help this could really become a reality. If I don’t make it this time I doubt that a third chance would be given to me. Therefore, I would appreciate all the help you can give me and that would make me eternally grateful.
