Here at JWOC, we believe quality education is the key to success. That’s why we are working with the local community in Siem Reap to help build understanding around the importance of education through increased access and opportunities for all to learn.
While Cambodia develops the benefits are not always shared equally. As inequality grows there is an ever increasing gap between the rich and poor. Nowhere is this more evident than in education, where parents who can afford to pay for private tuition or schooling can ensure their child receives the quality education that state schooling often cannot provide. But what happens to those who can’t afford this extra tuition? They’re left behind. In the context of an advancing economy, access to quality education and learning opportunities will become one of the deciding factors for those who make it to the top, and those who are left at the bottom.
JWOC works with the local community to invest in education, giving individuals and families the opportunity to learn and build their employability in an environment that enhances their confidence, skills and perception of education. This ensures long term, sustainable growth that will have a real impact on the standard of living of both local communities and the next generation of leaders in Cambodia.
JWOC is aiming to raise $10,000 in 3 months for our Free Classes program, so that we can continue to support the local community through quality education. Funds raised will ensure JWOC can:
- Provide all of the relevant materials to approximately 800 students (books, teaching resources, art supplies etc.) that will support up to 50 hours of student-centered learning (per four month term).
- Support our monthly teacher development workshops, giving our 40 scholarship student teachers the relevant teaching knowledge and resources to make learning fun and interactive.
- Maintain and build upon JWOC’s exceptional technological base, ensuring JWOC continues to be at the forefront of learning in Siem Reap.
- Ensure JWOC can employ and support our 6 khmer staff to be facilitators to our scholarship students and the rest of the community.
Every dollar that reaches JWOC will go towards helping our scholarship student teachers and those who come to learn at JWOC the chance to obtain a better future for themselves and their family.
