The Story

Josh Whitfield is a pretty extraordinary guy. Joining the U.S. Army right out of Hughson High School in California, Josh was wounded in Iraq and is the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After becoming medically retired for serving his country he came back home to Waterford California and began to give back right away to public service. He ran the towns youth basketball league from 2008-2011. He began to coach football at Waterford High School in 2011 and left football in 2014 to take over and rebuild the High School's Girls Basketball Program. Josh has really done a great job for the Girl's Basketball Program at Waterford. They haven't had a losing season with Josh and participation is at its highest in school history. Josh also became the school's Athletic Director in 2015. In 2008 he was inducted into the U.S. Space Camp Hall of Fame for his military service and his time with Space Camp and Aviation Challenge in Alabama. Aside from giving back to the youth and high school sports, Josh Whitfield has served on the Waterford City Council since 2013 and has been a major advocate for wounded veterans in California. He was recognized as a California Assembly Veteran of the Year in 2011. And for his day job, Josh works in public affairs for Meridian Pacific. Despite being a man of many hats, Josh is now in his second battle with cancer, having survived Testicular Cancer in 2010. Today he is now battling late-stage skin cancer which has spread along his lymph node system. Josh and his wife Kerry, who is also a High School Teacher and Softball Coach give back to their schools, communities and really our entire world each and every day. In many ways, both have dedicated their lives to the service and mentorship of young people.

Josh has never once asked the public for help in his health battles, never once letting the kids, his friends or his family down while he fights the good fight. He has donated and supported many local causes and been there for so many of us, his friends, in our times of need. This time around, however, Josh and Kerry are the ones in the need of a little help with the cost of Josh's extensive treatments. As a representative of the friends and family of Josh, we are asking for whatever help you can find in your hearts to give. Whether it is a prayer or a few bucks anything helps. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly into Josh and Kerry's bank account and provide tremendous relief and help to one of the best human beings I have ever met. Let's rally this beloved Girls Basketball Coach, City Councilman, and Community Leader and help him across the finish line!

We made it! Due to your help Josh and Kerry have reached the goal set to help them cover their projected costs for treatment! Josh and Kerry both send their love and thanks! Alongside the $35,500+ raised, Josh has received invaluable meal support from friends and Waterford Community Baptist Church, capitol staffers have donated countless hours of leave time to Josh and Kerry so they do not have to go without paychecks while on leave, Meridian Pacific, his other job continues to stand by Josh through thick and thin. Josh said he feels most important was and is the continued prayers. He told me this morning he feels the tide is turning and hopes to have Cancer whooped again soon. Josh has completed his final two planned surgeries. Walking out of the hospital giving the #deuces sign in the hopes he wont have to be back for any more operations. He is over halfway done with the clinical trial treatment with one of his two chemo medicines scheduled to end in early December and the second in early January. More Radiation and Immunotherapy still to come, but Josh says he feels like the momentum has shifted in the fight! The community of Waterford, CA put on a huge BBQ fundraiser that brought in over $10,000.00! Incredible! Small towns are so amazing. We have added that money into our count here of this fundraiser. Josh also got some financial relief from the hospital as well being apart of a clinical trial. With the updated expenses from the new treatment, Josh and Kerry believe they are just $7,500.00 short of having all projected medical bills covered. What an amazing blessing and relief for Josh and his family. Let's get them across the finish line! We are so close now. Thank you to everyone from across the USA and really globe for helping out our friend! #RageOn!

Josh just finished up another surgery over veterans day weekend. He came out of it just fine and is continuing to battle on! He wants everyone who has contributed to know how much he loves and appreciates you all. He could not believe the support he has gotten from all of you and was genuinely choked up when I saw him yesterday talking about it. Josh is a fighter and remains strong and resilient. Most importantly, despite being weak and in pain, he was still cracking jokes and smiling. Cancer can't take away his dignity or sense of humor. Hes always ready to try and make someone laugh no matter what and that fighting spirit, no matter the challenge, is what we all love about him. We are just $10,000 short of the finish line! Let's get him across by December 1st! Every little bit counts, whether its $10 dollars or $1000 it all helps and adds up.

Thank you all for helping a great man, husband, friend, leader and coach!
