We are writing to thank you for your prayers and condolences as we begin to rebuild. The support and love expressed during this time of our loss has been overwhelmingly gracious.
As some of you may know, we celebrated Draylen’s life on March 31st with our family, friends, and community. As we shared at the Memorial Service, Draylen was an artist of the stringed instruments and keyboards, composer, conductor, martial arts instructor and aspiring neurosurgeon. Though young, he pursued his life purpose with an effervescent fervor. His dedication to the arts and community service took him across the nation and around the world. He was the epitome of the spirit of excellence and he was loved by many for his kindness, sense of humor, and unique ability to touch all that he encountered. Though we are still grieving, and honestly will do so for some time, we also rejoice in knowing that Draylen is resting in the bosom of our Lord and that he touched so many in a positive manner.
As for his mother, who was also injured, she will remain at home for a few months to complete her physical healing. Repairs of the family home have commenced, but due to the extensive damage that will also take some time.
We join the Herrera family and express thanks for the efforts of the Austin Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation ATF, and all law enforcement officials involved in bringing Draylen’s assailant to justice. We do not know the reason or the why of these events, but we humbly and respectfully ask that our friends do not pursue blame, but instead seek the truth and the light that Draylen embraced throughout his days here on earth with us. Draylen pursued his dreams and lived well!
Please know that your sincere words and kindness have not gone unnoticed and we do pray that each and every one of you be blessed as you have blessed us. While we cannot see or trace God’s hand in this matter, we trust His heart and Draylen has taken his place among the servants of the Most High God.
Peace be unto you all,
The family of Draylen Mason
