The Story

Hello and thank you for looking at our fundraising page.

All who are asking how i can help my dad, the late Jonathan Shurberg, and our family here is a report. Long term funding is something we are working on. However, our immediate needs are more pressing. Having the money to bury Jon next to Rebecca and the accompanying expenses of a funeral are front and center. I don't have a final figure on immediate needs but until probate and his house settles we have a cash flow problem. Let me say that yesterday through the kindness of so many of you we raised around $2,000. Thank you. I love you as much I loved Jon. But there are still needs. I hope to lay out a more detailed request and budget so all will know what we need. But for now realize that while we surpassed the initial goal that was from March that money is not enough. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Jonathan Shurberg, March 27, 1963 to July 20, 2017. Jon left us early this morning. He was a father, husband, lawyer, community activist, change agent, blogger, snarkster-in-chief and loyal friend. He left us to return to the side of his beloved Rebecca Lord. He was surrounded by love both at his bed and in your heart. Jonathan leaves behind his children, Eli and Ethan. While Jon has left the battles for us to complete, we accomplished much in our time together. The celebration of his life via his funeral is pending.

Fundraiser Updates

Hi everyone, this is Eli with another update. Ethan and I are so amazed at the ongoing support and expressions of love and care from so many of y'all! It really means a lot to us.

As said before, the money raised here will go towards living expenses including medical bills (we're still waiting for insurance to process inpatient costs and transportation for both Holy Cross hospital and Johns Hopkins) the mortgage, essential bills like utilities and car insurance, gas for driving to and from the hospital, and food. Knowing that we have some financial security takes a huge load off for me and my family. As of right now, we'll be able to pull together enough to make it into next month and then some.

We're going to raise the goal as an ongoing fund for future expenses in the coming months, as my dad will be out of commission for a while. Even when he's up and more alert, he won't be able to work for quite a long time.

I'm going to be posting some photos to this page of my dad and our family throughout the fundraiser. thanks again!

Love,

Eli

Hi all! Eli here. Just posting a quick update to say that we are totally overwhelmed and amazed by the amount of generosity coming from our community right now. All the shares, donations, and messages from everyone mean the world to my family and I. Since we've nearly reached our goal so quickly, I want to clarify that we don't have a set amount in mind for this ongoing fundraiser, so I'll be raising the goal a bit just so y'all can keep making donations. This money will go into a separate account where it will be kept to pay the expenses I listed in the original post.

Again, Ethan and I cannot express how grateful we are for all of the kindness coming our way right now. I will continue to keep you all updated on my Dad's status and everything happening with our family.

Love and gratitude,

Eli
