The Story

Hi Everyone. If you don’t already know, Johnny James Follis was in a terrible car accident on November 15th 2016, and is currently in ICU at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Doctors have diagnosed JJ’s condition to be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life, with virtually no chance of ever having a normal life again.

However, we want to give JJ every opportunity to experience a miracle. Unfortunately, the cost for such an endeavor could be upwards of $500,000.

We’ve started this fundraiser for JJ in an effort to help offset the costs associated with various stem cell procedures he may qualify for, as well as the high costs associated with his aftercare and rehabilitation efforts.

Although no amount of money can ever ease the emotions associated with this tragic event, any financial assistance is going to aid in helping JJ’s chances at a full recovery someday.

Him and his family would greatly appreciate any financial help you may be able to provide in an effort to help give JJ the best shot at doing many of the simple things someday we all take for granted.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but we’re quickly learning sometimes it takes a village to save one.

With that, we’re asking everyone to please donate what they can. No amount is too large or too small, and if for some reason you’re not in a position to provide any financial assistance for JJ’s future care, your prayers will be more than enough.

Thank you so much for your consideration. Our family could never thank you enough for all of your warm messages, prayers and assistance.

Hey Everyone, just wanted to let ya'll know JJ is doing about as good as he can be. He's since moved from Vibra Hospital in Hillcrest to now Scripps Rehab Facility in Encinitas, so he's back in on his old stomping grounds. He's in great spirits, and is working with his physical therapists every single day. He's working so hard to try and get as much movement back as possible. It's crazy how much commitment and effort he's putting into it when he could very easily just go the other way. All of the things we so often take for granted are things he's fighting for every single day. Yet, he's still smiling, joking around and able to be the same funny goofy guy he's always been. Hat's off to him and thanks to all of you for your giving and caring. It's really gone a long way toward helping his recovery. If you know him well, and you can find the time, I'm sure he'd love to see you now!

Hello All! It's been a while, but don't think for one second we aren't continuing to cheer JJ's recovery efforts. This kid is an inspiration. Not only do his physical therapists look forward to working with him every day, he's got as determined of an attitude as you will ever see. He's eating, breathing and talking on his own, and he's building what strength he has every day. Some of the therapists have clearly stated most people in his condition don't even want to do the therapy, so it's truly inspiring to watch and listen to him. He's literally doing everything he can to give himself every chance at mobility some day. He'll be leaving the ICU after-care facility soon, and moving up to a specialized rehab facility in Carlsbad, so please continue to send him your warm thoughts, positive energy and prayers. He really appreciates all of it to no end! Thank you all so much!!

Happy New Year All. JJ is doing better and continues to make progress. He's breathing completely on his own now, is talking and eating just about everything he possibly can. His appetite is off the charts! It's great to hear him talk. His view on things is very inspiring, as he continues to make the best of things. He's working through his rehab efforts, while the physical therapists say many in his condition typically choose not to. He should be out of the hospital facility within a few weeks, and will enter into a dedicated rehab facility within the next few weeks. Let's keep cheering him on! As always, thank you all so much for your kind messages and support. It's a marathon not a sprint for him, so please don't stop sending him all of the love and support you can.
