On Jan 18th, 2016 John Bamber's life changed forever. While riding his motorcycle in Sunnyvale, a driver hit John sending him to the Emergency Room at Stanford Hospital. With two broken legs, and two pinned hips, the road to recovery will be difficult and long.
For those of us involved in the Portola Valley School District, John has been a fixture for as long as I can remember. Always there, and always helpful, John has been one of the machines behind the scenes that ensure that our kids and our educational family kept running smoothly.
But now it’s our turn to help John. Accidents of this severity take a long time to recover from, and often, the recovered life is very different than the life that proceeded the event. Time stops for no one, and the same is true now. The demands of life don’t stop, even though earning and income are severely impacted. The added burden of healing and strengthening, along with the added expenses from medical insurance that never seems to cover it all, means that John will have additional loads to carry for quite a while.
It’s often the case that the one at fault for the accident has generous coverage and deep pockets. Sadly, that is not the case for John. While the driver of the car has admitted responsibility, his coverage was not sufficient, nor does he have deep pockets from which to pay for the consequences of his actions. This means that John has even a greater burden.
When talking to others in the community, all have expressed a desire to help. I’ve put together this donation site so that the community, our community, can give back to one who has worked for many a year to ensure that our kids have a safe environment to learn and thrive. So let’s step up, and give. It’s our turn now.
