Letter from Kami Lyle.
Yes, this is happening…to the cutest, kindest, sweetest man to ever walk the earth, Joey Spampinato.
Now that he and I have had a month to sort of accept it, I guess it's finally time to let everyone know. So I write this letter to all of our wonderful friends, our amazing fans, and our dear family.
Thank you, so much, for loving Joey. My husband, best friend, and the greatest singer songwriter/bass player on the planet.
Joey has been diagnosed with cancer. It's not stage four. We are grateful for that. As it stands, we are on a 12-month treatment plan. Joey begins 24 hour chemotherapy in a few days. For about 6 weeks. He will also receive radiation every weekday for 6 weeks. After a break to recover and regain some strength, he will have surgery. After he recovers from surgery they will do more tests. Then, if everything goes as planned, the last half of the year will be six more months of chemo.
We are hanging on tight and staying positive, cherishing every second together, and with the people we love. Please know that all of his doctors, nurses, surgeons... all the people around us, have been incredible. If you're going to basically go to the hospital every day, we highly recommend Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis and Beth Israel in Boston. They've been SO great to him. The people helping us get through this have been AMAZING. We are in such good hands. And we continue to have hope. He is braver than you could ever imagine. And just as sweet as ever.
So that's the news. I will try to keep posting updates here. Obviously, as musicians, we have no earthly idea how to pay for the year that lies ahead. If you are able to help even a little, that would be wonderful and we would of course appreciate it. Greatly. Most of all, please send him healing energy, good thoughts, and prayers for a VERY successful surgery.
And feel free to write him notes! This is a great place for people to keep in touch! To just say hi to him, or send words of encouragement. I will share your notes with him every day. It's going to be a very long year. Please wish us luck.
MUCH love to all of you,
PS to each and every one of you, please remember this…
Whatever test or doctor visit you are afraid to go to, or have been putting off, GO. DO IT. NOW. It would make us so happy if even one person who reads this decides to do that, or encourages someone else to. Maybe they can avoid the month we've just been through and the year that's now in front of us.
Thank you. Be well. Keep in touch. Love, Kami and Joey
