The Story

Joe Rykert, Modesto, California resident, professional photographer, singer, husband, father, grandfather and brother, was diagnosed in March 2015 with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Joe has completed 6 chemotherapy treatments over the course of the last 4 months, and will be starting the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant process at the end of August 2015. During this time, Joe will need to remain in Stanford Cancer Center for a total of approximately 4 weeks, assuming there are no complications. Full recovery from an Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant is 6-12 months. Joe’s extended hospital stay will exceed thousands of dollars creating a large financial burden, as well as during a portion of this process Joe’s wife, Tammy, will be his 24/7 caregiver making it impossible for her to work. Due to the overwhelming hardship this will create, we are making a loving effort to help Joe & his family, through monetary donations.

For over 40 years, Joe Rykert has selflessly donated his time and talents to Modesto and surrounding communities. By singing and photographing at multiple fundraisers, performing arts, funerals, political events, church events and many more, a lot of you have had the privilege of witnessing Joe's extraordinary God given gifts. Now is your opportunity to give back to Joe in his time of need.

We thank you for your donation, support and most of all, your PRAYERS!

At this point of treatment in Joe's bone marrow transplant, we are waiting for his white blood cell count to go up to at least a 3.0, it's currently 0.1. Joe's blood platelets are low so he had his first blood platelet transplant yesterday. He's doing very well keeping any infections at bay as well as fevers. Please continue to pray as he approaches the harvest of the new stem cells and the actual bone marrow transplant. Thank you for all your prayers and encouragement.

September 3, 2015 - Update:

Joe spent the last three days at Stanford. He had a Hickman catheter put in his chest. He also received an extremely high dose chemo to kill all good and bad in his body. Because of this, he is not allowed any visitors or flowers. I started his neupogen injections at home this morning which will help his bone marrow produce new stem cells - the doctors will be harvesting shortly. This will prepare him for the actual bone marrow transplant coming soon.
A lot of our friends have been asking if they could help in making meals, and believe me my mom sure wishes she could accept all your offers, but she has to cook all foods for Joe herself - Doctors orders. Joe is resting well at home. We sincerely appreciate all your offers and prayers. Please keep praying!
