The Story

For those who don't know me, I'm a missionary with YWAM, originally from the UK.

In 2016 whilst living and serving in New York, USA, I was admitted to hospital with some pretty serious blood clotting in my legs, lungs and heart. Each time I spent around a week in hospital, some of it in ICU, and have continued to follow up with treatment. It's left me with a number of things to deal with, including no blood supply to the bottom of my lungs, a condition known as CTEPH  (a form of Pulmonary Hypertension), right ventricular failure, limited circulation to my foot, and needing to manage a pretty aggressive clotting disorder.

I have extensive medical bills from those incidents, but also need treatment going forward, and am hopeful for a surgical cure for some of it. As a support-raising missionary, know the provision for that is coming through friends and family.

I was using this fundraiser to help me with my current bills (totaling over $100,000), but have decided instead to focus on HOPE and moving forward. With my new insurance we can predict much more easily my costs to get me to the stage where I am 'managing' this condition, and so I'm coming to you through this fundraiser and asking you to join me in getting 'clot free' in a few different ways.

1. Pray!!!! Prayer works. Pray for healing, for strength, for wisdom - and for reduction in the bills I'm negotiating!!!!

2. Consider donating to this fundraiser. Every little bit helps

3. Consider sharing this fundraiser with your friends and families

My goal is to have the costs I need by the time we're hoping my surgery could be done. I know this is only do-able through the help and support of others, and love and appreciate each one of you walking this journey with me.

Last year I had several clotting events (we have since found a few underlying reasons), and, as a result of the clots on my lungs was diagnosed at the start of the year with CTEPH, a form of Pulmonary Hypertension. My fundraiser is to help me with the ongoing costs of testing and treatment for 2017, which we now know, unfortunately, will not be resulting in surgery, but rather, medical management of the condition.

Leaving the US for this year sadly doesn't mean my medical costs for this year disappear, as I have already had many of the procedures, tests, appointments, medication etc and am now trying to pay those bills. In an ideal world I would have another $4500 by the end of this month, as I am already behind on several of my payments.

From now until the end of the month I will also be sharing a random fact related to either CTEPH, PH, Heart Failure, Blood clots or my own treatment on my facebook wall and instagram - watch this space to find out more, and THANK YOU!!!!!

I JUST BROKE THE $10,000 marker!

Thank you to everyone who bought a shirt in the second run of Breathe Hope.

There are people still asking about shirts, so in a month I will run it again. Until then, you can still give through this page.

Last week I had some of the testing done for the hospital in Boston. The doctors got everything they needed much quicker than anticipated, and after a rough couple of hours where I seemed not to tolerate the sedative or radiation or something, met the requirement for  eating, drinking, toilet and walking, and was able to come home. Jade was with me all day in the hospital, and Anita took care of me the day after. By Saturday I was myself again, and am looking forward to hearing news from Boston soon, and hopefully a date for the PTE surgery!

Thanks to some generous donations in the last few days, I'm past the halfway goal toward my fundraising for my medical costs. With a procedure booked for next week, the timing couldn't be better to encourage me that this IS happening, and that God IS providing for my healing and financial needs this way.

This feels like a huge landmark for me, and I wanted to thank everyone who has given, prayed and shared so far, and helped me with practical things like driving me to appointments, helped me learn to negotiate bills etc.

I'm also challenged and encouraged by the example set by those of you sowing into this. Many have shared that as they prayed for me, the Lord gave them a specific amount to give. Not only am I blessed by the actual donations, but you are setting the bar high for me in terms of examples of radical obedience and generosity, hospitality and serving to others. I love and value each one of you. THANK YOU!
