The Story

If 1 in 50 kids are autistic, what happens when they grow up. Actually, the same things that happen to the other 49, right? I'm one of the autistic kids who grew up. Now, I need your help.

I'm 8 years into a PhD in Education, all of which I've funded myself. My study, Higher Education Retention Strategies. Assessing best practices for the retention of adults with autism spectrum disorders, examines and attempts to quantify the many reasons why autistic college student retention rates are so low. Why are autistic college students dropping out at a higher rate than their neuro-typical peers?

Your donations will not only help me recover the costs of the recruitment of study participants, but also the costs of licensing of the tools required for the data analysis section of my study. There are also costs to edit / proofread and publish my work that come up at the end.

So much has been done to improve the lives of autistic kids in a K-12 setting. Mine is one of the few efforts to study retention of autistic college students. I'm so close to finishing. I just need a little help to cross the finish line.

I thank you in advance for your support of this very worthy project.

The minor changes to my dissertation (post defense) have been completed and approved. It's off to the proofreader. If you can help offset the many costs of doing original research on improving the lives of actually autistic people, it would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps. Thanks. :)

Data collection and analysis is complete. Some very interesting results were discovered. The results have implications across a number of domains. I'm in the process of editing and polishing ahead of submission to my Chair and Committee. Thanks again for your support.
