It is with a heavy heart that I announce that beloved sister, daughter, and friend, Jessica Palmer-Nelson passed away on the afternoon of October 13, 2017 at her home in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia.
Jessica was a champion for the community and outspoken advocate for the underrepresented. Always the life of the party, Jessica brought a fun spirit to every room she entered. She had a zeal for life and loved to cook, dance, design, and sew. She participated in various organizations and championed many causes including: being member of Whosoever Metropolitan Community Church and its Women's Group, a planner and a cook for SisterSpace, attending and supporting The Trans March, Trans Health Conference, and the Dyke March each, frequently donating to PhillyAids Thrift, and a passionate participant in many other LGBTQ and women of color events and causes. We will miss our sister, but her positive energy will continue to ripple though our community.
She is survived by her brothers, Taurean Nelson and Darius Nelson, mother Marsha Palmer, father Michael Nelson, and countless friends and relatives. Please feel free to offer any words of condolences, thoughts, and prayers for the family below in the comments section. All is truly appreciated. Memorial services and other announcements will follow soon. All donations are to help with funeral and memorial expenses and surplus will be donated to the White Dress Project, a fibroid research organization. Please contact Kenya Gayles for any questions at [email protected] or email the family at [email protected]
