The Story

Jennie is building a network of support to transform maternity outcomes in the USA. Be a part of the change, be a part of the movement – stand for mothers and babies right now. Your participation is critical.

Commonsense Childbirth Inc. (CSC)is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 by Jennie Joseph. Jennie has dedicated her life to educating and helping women and families have better birth experiences. Jennie's mission has always been to provide quality care to women and babies regardless of their ability to pay. Though this is a noble endeavor, the fact of the matter is that it takes money to keep the doors open. This is where YOU can help!

These are the current missions that are being successfully operated by Commonsense Childbirth:
  • Easy Access Prenatal Care Clinics - These clinics offer quality maternity care for all, regardless of their choice of delivery-site or ability to pay, and have successfully reduced both maternal and infant morbidity and mortality in Central Florida. These clinics also offer more than just maternity care. A few of these include OBGYN services, counseling, social support, health education, STD/STI screening, and much more.  Find more information on these clinics here.
  • The Birth Place - The Birth Place offers a unique opportunity for pregnant women to choose the site, setting and type of provider for their prenatal care and the delivery of their baby. Find The Birth Place on facebook by clicking here.
  • The Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery (CCSM)  - Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery is licensed through the Florida Department of Education’s Commission for Independent Education as a post-secondary institution and is located in Winter Garden, a west suburb of sunny Orlando.  In addition to our midwifery program, short courses and continuing education  (i.e. Doula, Lactation, MCH Specialist) have been created as a starting point for the maternal child (MCH) health field as well as better equipping those already practicing.
  • The National Perinatal Task Force (NPTF) - The National Perinatal Task Force is a virtual community of people who have a heart for women and children. People who have heard the statistics, understand that the system is broken and want to make a practical difference in the health outcomes for mothers and babies. The NPTF is a grassroots movement to start and grow Perinatal Safe Spots (PSS) in every Materno-toxic Area. It’s a place to share ideas – what’s working and what’s not. The NPTF is to support YOU supporting women and families. For more information about NPTF click here.   Find us on FACEBOOK here.

Jennie continues to move forward, but the financial need is growing daily. The goal of this 2016 campaign is to raise $92,300. This number will enable her to meet her current financial needs, put more hands on deck, and continue her mission.

Jennie needs your help. Mothers need your help. Babies need your help. Stand in the gap. Be a friend of Jennie Joseph today.

I am grateful for the continued support from our community of friends - I have found a new space for our Easy Access Women's Health Clinic!!! Phew!!

The absolute blessing of a safe environment for moms and babies, located close to the delivering hospitals that our families choose for their birth, along with the generosity of the doctor who has stepped forward to smooth our path to relocation - cannot be expressed with mere words. I remain humbled by the kindness and interest of friends and families, both new and long-term, who have journeyed with us through the ups and downs of this mission. We can't count how many chunky babies, robustly healthy moms, and empowered dads have passed through our hands - but I am clear that we couldn't continue without ALL who share in the vision and are not shy of this heavy lifting.

We have scrambled to accommodate the moms by running the EasyAccess clinic from The Birth Placesite these last couple of weeks, managing staff shortages, running up and down the hall, sharing space and resources, coralling the toddlers, while still delivering birth center babies AND me managing to keep up with my wild travel schedule.

There is no other way this could all be held together other than God's guiding hand and infinite grace. So, we are moving, we are transitioning, and we are going to make it!

Yup, the sky is literally falling over at the #Easy Access Clinic, #Orlando! Two weekends ago the ceiling fell down in one of our exam rooms - we know how very blessed we are because no one was in the building, let alone on the exam table!! Unfortunately our landlord continues in the same 'sure, yes we are on it, we will fix it' lip service mode that he reverts to whenever put upon to take care of his tenants. Yet here we are, faced with torrential Florida rain most afternoons, and a clear view of the sky when we look up through the gaping hole that was left, probably since Hurricane Irma. As far as I am concerned though, a patchwork of brand new ceiling tiles IS NOT A FIX.

For the health and safety of the women and families that we serve I have closed the Orlando/Pine Hills office and we are temporarily out of that clinic space.

I am appealing for help and donations for this transition period while we start the immediate search for new premises.

We are going to see if we can accommodate the moms at the birth center site in Winter Garden in the short term starting Monday June 18, 2018.

We need financial support for relocation costs, storage, attorney fees, new rental space deposit, re-licensing, re-credentialing, inspections, patient bus passes, and so on. Legally we will have to continue paying rent on our remaining lease, regardless of whether and how ever long the landlord takes to repair the roof and ensure the space is safe. A double whammy!

This upheaval comes at the worst time - as we see our clinic bursting at the seams, as we see the women and families truly beginning to trust and depend on our standing with them in partnership for healthier outcomes. We have just added a new Portuguese language clinic last month, along with the Spanish language clinic and our wait time for new appointments is 2-5 weeks. Now, after two and a half years of building deep into this community, it looks like we are walking away, breaking our word that we would be there, no matter what. I'm more than sure our moms will understand, but so many will be unable to find a way to our birth center, (not on a bus route) and will be back to the situation they were in before we got there - we remain one of the only maternity safety net providers for Central Florida, and for the nearly 1000 patients who have been accessing our services annually.

Any help you can give will be truly appreciated - especially your prayers, and THANK YOU!

Hello Friends!

It has been a while since our last update. Things are still busy as ever, if not even more so!

Here is a quick update of what we are up to at our Easy Access Clinic :

The need at this clinic is increasingly great. We do not advertise this clinic and it is based solely on word of mouth. That being said, we are often busier than we can handle!

How we wish we could share each story of every woman that comes to us in very real need.
The woman who is being denied prenatal care at every other OBGYN office due to a pre-existing condition.                                       The homeless woman who has had no prenatal care whatsoever because she cannot afford the typical minimum out of            pocket payment that is usually required at time of service.
The new mom who comes to our Postpartum Depression Support Group in desperate need of reassurance.
The undocumented woman who needs access to a well woman visit...

The variety of women and families we see is amazing. Each one with a different situation but each with the same immediate need - SUPPORT. Consider donating to this campaign. Each and every financial supporter plays a significant role in the work that is going on at the Easy Access Clinic. Donate today to help fund this much needed work.

As always, Commonsense Childbirth Inc. (CSC)is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
