The Story

Jennie is building a network of support to transform maternity outcomes in the USA. Be a part of the change, be a part of the movement – stand for mothers and babies right now. Your participation is critical.

Commonsense Childbirth Inc. (CSC)is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 by Jennie Joseph. Jennie has dedicated her life to educating and helping women and families have better birth experiences. Jennie's mission has always been to provide quality care to women and babies regardless of their ability to pay. Though this is a noble endeavor, the fact of the matter is that it takes money to keep the doors open. This is where YOU can help!

These are the current missions that are being successfully operated by Commonsense Childbirth:
  • Easy Access Prenatal Care Clinics - These clinics offer quality maternity care for all, regardless of their choice of delivery-site or ability to pay, and have successfully reduced both maternal and infant morbidity and mortality in Central Florida. These clinics also offer more than just maternity care. A few of these include OBGYN services, counseling, social support, health education, STD/STI screening, and much more.  Find more information on these clinics here.
  • The Birth Place - The Birth Place offers a unique opportunity for pregnant women to choose the site, setting and type of provider for their prenatal care and the delivery of their baby. Find The Birth Place on facebook by clicking here.
  • The Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery (CCSM)  - Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery is licensed through the Florida Department of Education’s Commission for Independent Education as a post-secondary institution and is located in Winter Garden, a west suburb of sunny Orlando.  In addition to our midwifery program, short courses and continuing education  (i.e. Doula, Lactation, MCH Specialist) have been created as a starting point for the maternal child (MCH) health field as well as better equipping those already practicing.
  • The National Perinatal Task Force (NPTF) - The National Perinatal Task Force is a virtual community of people who have a heart for women and children. People who have heard the statistics, understand that the system is broken and want to make a practical difference in the health outcomes for mothers and babies. The NPTF is a grassroots movement to start and grow Perinatal Safe Spots (PSS) in every Materno-toxic Area. It’s a place to share ideas – what’s working and what’s not. The NPTF is to support YOU supporting women and families. For more information about NPTF click here.Find us on FACEBOOK here.

Jennie continues to move forward, but the financial need is growing daily. The goal of this 2016 campaign is to raise $92,300. This number will enable her to meet her current financial needs, put more hands on deck, and continue her mission.

Jennie needs your help. Mothers need your help. Babies need your help. Stand in the gap. Be a friend of Jennie Joseph today.

Fundraiser Updates

Hello Friends!

It has been a while since our last update. Things are still busy as ever, if not even more so!

Here is a quick update of what we are up to at our Easy Access Clinic :

The need at this clinic is increasingly great. We do not advertise this clinic and it is based solely on word of mouth. That being said, we are often busier than we can handle!

How we wish we could share each story of every woman that comes to us in very real need.
The woman who is being denied prenatal care at every other OBGYN office due to a pre-existing condition.                                       The homeless woman who has had no prenatal care whatsoever because she cannot afford the typical minimum out of            pocket payment that is usually required at time of service.
The new mom who comes to our Postpartum Depression Support Group in desperate need of reassurance.
The undocumented woman who needs access to a well woman visit...

The variety of women and families we see is amazing. Each one with a different situation but each with the same immediate need - SUPPORT. Consider donating to this campaign. Each and every financial supporter plays a significant role in the work that is going on at the Easy Access Clinic. Donate today to help fund this much needed work.

As always, Commonsense Childbirth Inc. (CSC)is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

The JJ Way® and National Perinatal Task Force - Spotlight

What is The JJ Way®?

Every woman wants a healthy baby and every woman deserves one. This is the premise that drives Jennie Joseph and her purpose for creating The JJ Way®. This model of care has been proven to be effective in reducing disparities and improving birth outcomes. From the very first appointment the goal of a full-term healthy baby is emphasized and all subsequent measures stress that theme until safe arrival at that point.

The key objectives of The JJ Way® are:

  • For pregnancies to reach a gestation of 37 weeks or greater.
  • For newborns to have a birth weight of 5 lbs. 8 oz or greater.
  • For women (and their families) to bond well to their babies.
  • To start and succeed at breastfeeding.

The JJ Way’s innovative model builds on the strengths of the Midwives Model of Care to reach a population that does not typically seek midwifery services.

The goals of The JJ Way® are:

  • To provide a model that is easy to duplicate which allows the healthcare provider to run an efficient, safe and productive system.
  • To provide training and organizational systems for medical establishments that wish to improve their patient and employee satisfaction, compliance, and loyalty along with reducing litigation.
  • On a corporate/ private level to engage organizations in the value of healthy women and thereby families and the importance of a new approach in providing that information.
  • On a community level to engage and educate families, business owners, ‘leaders’ and churches in the urgency of the problem and how they can help to be part of the solution.

In the USA, despite ongoing research and discussion, perinatal health disparities are not improving in any great fashion, and in some areas the gap is actually widening. Newer interventions are focusing on more holistic approaches including looking at stress, environment and life-course approaches. The JJ Way® is a simple, cost-effective model which can be easily emulated and adapted for any practice, and which has the potential to seriously impact the discouraging perinatal statistics that have become all too common.

The JJ Way® Model has been proven effective. (You can read more about that HERE.) We are seeing babies born full term and healthy. We are seeing bonding between mother and baby. We are seeing successful breastfeeding. We are seeing happy mothers and healthy babies. And this is largely in part of the type of care they are receiving. It is our goal to be able to provide this model of care to EVERY mother and EVERY baby. We also seek to educate and provide information to current care providers so they can implement this same model of care and see the same results that we have witnessed.

By giving to this cause you are becoming an active participant in reducing the disparities in birth that are so great in the USA today. By supporting Commonsense Childbirth you are helping to close the gap between women and getting the pre/post natal care they need.

Dear Friends,

I feel compelled to write a note to say THANK YOU to each and everyone of you who have given to this cause. Scrolling through the list of names and the attached messages left me feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. Because of your generosity I am able to continue to provide the care for women and babies that is so needed.

Each person that comes in for care, whether it be at the Easy Access Clinic or The Birth Place, has a story - a reason why they have come to us. These women, these families, are important to us. We value them. We accept them. We educate and support them. We love them. We listen to their stories. Oh, how I wish I could share each story with you.

By supporting Commonsense Childbirth you are making a difference in these women's lives.

I cannot express how much I appreciate your support. Each time a donation comes in I am reminded that it does, in fact, "take a village." Thank you for being a part of my village. Thank you for your willingness to give and keep this opportunity available for these women.

Sincerely,
Jennie
