The Story

WARNING - GRAPHIC PHOTOS -
SHAY had been missing for about 2 1/2 weeks and was found today in terrible shape. She'd been hit by a car days ago and dragged herself into someone's yard where animal control picked her up. She was rushed to our vet, but needed to go to Red Bank Emergency Hospital. She has a fractured pelvis and a fractured femur (1 on each side). We are still waiting on the extent of her injuries, but her medical expenses are mounting very quickly...we really need your help...
SHAY had a prolapsed rectum (her THIRD time) when she entered the shelter and due to her medical condition, she was timestamped immediately. We were able to get her out of the shelter and to the emergency room...during her surgery/biopsy/xrays we found that she also had pyometra (bad infection in the uterus) and this was causing the prolapsed uterus...well, she healed completely from that surgery....2 1/2 weeks ago, she ran off at the campground...she is frightened by strangers, making it very difficult to search for her; we didn't want to run her off - into an unknown area.
She has been through so much...we are praying to be able to see her through this. Please share...we will update the fundraiser once we hear from the hospital

UPDATE ON SHAY: We are happy to report that Shay does have bowel/bladder control. There was a big concern that she may have had nerve damage but she let it all out in Jamie's van when she was being transported! Shay's pain is still being managed...although she is at a different facility, she is still continuing to improve. Please continue to share for her surgery in the upcoming days...we are so grateful she has been found and looking forward to her recovery. Please donate, even if its just a few dollars...and share her story. We are desperate need of donations and we can't do it without you!

We received an update on Shay this morning. Her pain is being managed but she is not urinating. They will be putting in a catheter so she can empty her bladder. At this point, we don't know if this is neurogenic (disconnect between brain and bladder) or if she is just being stubborn and doesn't want to urinate. Their critical care specialist will be looking at her this afternoon. Her bills are mounting and we haven't even gotten to the surgery consult yet. Please please share...thank you to all who have generously donated for her! She has been through so so much - she is not a stranger to emergencies...please keep her in your thoughts and prayers

SHAY update: Shay is at Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital - they are working to manage her pain through IV pain meds until her surgical consult with the surgeon on Monday. We are looking at an astronomical bill...one that we are in no way prepared for. Even with "putting a hold" on non-emergency treatments for the other dogs in our care, we still need to meet Shay's goal (which will be updated once we have her surgical estimate) before we can resume treatment/surgeries for the others...and will not be able to pull any more dogs until we get back on track. Helping Shay helps them all...your donations are tax deductible and we appreciate everyone's support in seeing that Shay has the chance to recover. We can't imagine the fear and the pain that she endured while she was missing...but we are so grateful to have her back.
