The Story

[Please note: Costs to repair the flooding damage are still being assessed. Therefore, we have increased the goal. Thank you for your generosity and kindness during this stressful time.]

From September 10th to the 11th, Hurricane Irma trampled over the state of Florida leaving behind much devastation including the demise of The Dance Trance Jacksonville studio in San Marco.

The studio was submerged in 3-5 feet of water and is a total loss. The dance floor, sound equipment, shop and building itself were flooded by sewage and rising water.

This is the home or "mothership" of the Global Dance Trance program and it will take thousands of dollars and months if it is even possible to get this studio back on its feet. This money collected will go towards bills and damages of what Irma took from us. Jay and Beth did not have insurance coverage and FEMA does not provide federal relief for businesses. All donations are very much appreciated.

Jay and Beth Handline, the creators and owners of Dance Trance sunk every penny into creating this studio and into our dance fitness program as a whole. They are now in need of our support and generosity to help them recover from this loss.

If you are able, we hope that you will consider a donation to not only help re-open Dance Trance San Marco but also help the Handline's keep the program in operation for the Jacksonville students.

Thank you in advance,

Last weekend was the final DT Workshop of 2017. So many DT directors, instructors and students gathered in Jacksonville to learn new choreography and business advice but it was also a great time for us to come together as a Nation and support the Handline's in this stressful transition.

Elisa and I have brainstormed a couple of additional ways to involve our studios in fundraising efforts and came up with this idea to hold a weekend long dance request-a-thon.

Think of it as a jukebox for you DT studios. Students select the playlist for a donation. You can do it on one day or several days. A one hour class or two. All proceeds sent to the Handlines in Jax.

What could be saved, has been saved.

Unfortunately, so much was ruined - including the Tim LeNoir murals of the girls dancing and the graffiti style shout out to our DT studios on the dressing room walls.

The other murals and posters were removed and are now covering Jay and Beth's dining room. (See photo gallery).

The floor is in the trash and fingers are crossed that some of the speakers and lighting survived. But we learned today the mirrors will have to be replaced. That's because they have to be removed to treat the walls for mold, and if you know anything about mirrors you know that glass doesn't come cheap.

We are working on some other fundraising ideas but for now - this is still our big drive, so - keep sharing this link. More updates to come! ❤️

The demolition started. Flooring has been ripped up in the shop and studio. The beautiful dance floor has now been piled up like garbage. And we've got mannequins down. Not good. The Handline's had to scramble and remove the sound system earlier this week because the cops are worried about looters. A lot of downtown remains vacant so clean up crews are working fast to get these buildings back up and occupied so they aren't broken into and vandalized causing more damage. Thank you to everyone for helping us hit this $10k goal, but there's a couple of things I want to point out: A new dance floor alone is $20k, in addition the Handline's will have to continue to pay rent on a building they can't occupy + make up for lost revenue and try to run the Global program and Neptune Beach. This is a lot. I'll talk again with Jay and Beth and set a new goal. More to come!

PS - Workshop is still on for next weekend. An email went out. It will be later and at Neptune Beach. Can't wait to see you all!
