As most will be aware Jason was diagnosed in July 17 with a rare form of childhood bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. Only 4 adults a year in the U.K get diagnosed with this type of cancer meaning just a 0.4 in a million chance of someone ever getting it (yes he doesn’t do things by halves!haha) After many tests and scans it was discovered to have already spread upon diagnosis and urgent treatment would begin.
Jason started chemotherapy at St James hospital in Leeds 4 days after first diagnosis. We were told right from the start that Jason couldn’t be cured but treatment would prolong his life and keep him pain free and ease his symptoms. Even with that news Jason began the fight for his life, to this day has done it with unbelievable strength, courage, determination, wit and humility (of course!)
Initially he responded really well to the chemotherapy and signs of cancer were beginning to reduce! However a few more rounds of chemo and became apparent it had stopped working. In November we were told he had considerable spread and to try a different type of chemotherapy. After 2 rounds of a new chemotherapy unfortunately further scans showed more considerable spread
On January the 12th 2018 we were given the devestating news that the hospital were stopping treatment due to the aggressive rate at which the cancer was growing and spreading . We were told Jason has just a few months left to live
We are all making plans to get Jason at home from hospital as quickly as possible to begin making some wonderful memories surrounded by his family and friends, everyone he loves the most
Unfortunately Jason hasn‘t been able to work since July due to treatment. His company have been amazing helping us financially. I have been by Jason‘s side right from the beginning and made the decision to give up work to become his full time carer. Being self employed I’m not entitled to anything just £60 a week carers allowance which puts a huge financial strain for a family of 3 living on just one wage
We are kindly asking for donations to help support the family for the rest of Jason‘s time here with us. Donations will help support Jason’s income, put towards bills and everyday living expenses. Jason worries about the pressure this situation has put on the family and will ease his mind knowing we don’t have to worry about money. Anything more we will use to fulfill Jason’s final wishes (more than likely pay for meals because food is the love of his life!haha) Let’s make the last of his time with us the best time yet!
Thank You everyone for your messages, well wishes and support! The overwhelming response to the latest news just proves how well loved and liked Jason is and just how many people are behind him during this journey.
He has shown me strength like I have never seen before! Not once through any of this has he been pityful, ‘why me?’ or cynical! He’s tackled every obstacle full on in true Jason Pepper style and still managed to have everyone in stitches laughing whilst laying in hospital!
One thing I do want to say is hug your loved ones a little tighter, tell and show people you love them, don’t sweat the small stuff, live each day to the full, fulfill your dreams and plans, stop putting things off, stop waiting for the perfect moment-day-year! Life is way too bloody short and I vow that from now on I will be living each day to the fullest for the love of my life!!
Please don’t worry if you can’t afford anything please just promise to keep us in your thoughts and prayers :)
Kirsty and Jason
